I need some advice on how to handle this situation.

I was involved in a minor accident on April 13th where another vehicle hit me. The damage to my vehicle came to around ₹3500. The person driving the vehicle wasn’t the owner, so I contacted the actual owner. He agreed that I should get the repair done, share the bill, and he would pay me.

I got the repair done the same day and shared the bill with him. He initially said he would send the money, but since then he has been delaying continuously. Now it’s been quite some time, and he has started saying he will only pay ₹2000, and even that he keeps postponing.

I went to the police station to ask what I can do. The officer told me to write a complaint and submit it, but also mentioned they might not actively follow up and would mainly provide a complaint number (which is usually useful for insurance claims). Since I’ve already paid out of pocket and the repair is done, I’m not sure how useful that is now.

At this point, I feel like I’m just being dragged along with false promises.

What would be the best way to handle this now?

Should I still file the complaint?

Is there any legal way to push this further for such a small amount?

Or should I consider this a loss and move on?

Any advice would be really helpful.
