April 29, 2026 at 1:46 pmI need urgent legal direction regarding an inheritance deadlock in Maharashtra. The facts:
1. I just turned 21. My father passed away several years ago.
2. My mother abandoned me completely when I was a teenager. I was forced into survival jobs just to stay alive.
3. We resumed contact this January only after she promised to fund my final eligible year for a critical entrance exam.
4. Based on that promise, I took admission and classes have started. She immediately withdrew, refused to send funds, and told me to abandon my education entirely.
5. Since this is my absolute last eligible year, I decided to sell my legal share of ancestral property to a willing family member.
6. Despite years of abandonment and breaking her explicit promise, she has stated she will never allow the sale and is actively interfering out of bad faith.
7. I am currently stranded with absolutely zero cash in hand for food or basic survival today. She has the liquid capital and is fully aware of my immediate physical situation, but has deliberately refused to provide even basic essentials.
8. Direct communication with her is impossible due to her extreme hostility. While I am hoping the buyer (an elder family member) can mediate, her refusal to listen to reason leaves me no choice but to seek legal leverage.
My questions:
As an adult legal heir, does she have any authority to block me from selling my undivided share of ancestral land?
Do I need to file a formal partition suit first, or can I execute a sale deed for my undivided share directly?
What is the immediate first legal step to bypass her interference so I can fund my education and survive?
Edit : This is urgent and I’m yet to arrange the logistics of the move, to my hometown and enough buffer till the transaction is done.
