April 27, 2026 at 4:17 amHi everyone,I recently rented a flat in Hinjewadi, Pune and Iโm in a really bad situation.
– I paid โน35,000 as rent (to a company account)
– โน50,000 as security deposit (to the brokerโs personal account)
– No rent agreement has been made or signed yet
The problem: the flat is heavily infested with cockroaches.
The broker/owner claimed pest control had already been done twice before I moved in. But after shifting:
– We killed 100+ cockroaches in just a couple of days
– They come out in large numbers at night
– They are everywhere: under the bed, on the bed, inside cupboards, even inside the washing machine
– A small cockroach even came through the RO water outlet
Weโve tried basic remedies, but itโs clearly a deep infestation and not manageable. Itโs honestly unlivable, and I cannot stay here another night.
It has only been 3 days since I moved in.
My questions:
1. Since no rent agreement is signed, can I demand a full or majority refund?
2. Can I legally push for the broker to return the โน50k deposit (given it was paid to his personal account)?
3. Whatโs the best way to confront the broker/owner in this situation?
4. Should I consider filing a complaint (if yes, where)?
Any advice would really help. This is my first time dealing with something like this.
Thanks.
