UMy mom was part of a chit fund run by a lady in our neighborhood. She paid monthly installments, and now that lady owes us around 7 lakhs (we have proof of about 4.5 lakhs paid).
It’s been almost 5 years, but she still hasn’t returned the money. She keeps giving excuses every time we ask.
We’re also scared to go to the police because she threatens my mom saying she’ll harm herself if we do.
We really need the money right now, and when my mom recently went to speak to her, she just said she doesn’t have the money and will give it whenever she can.
We feel completely helpless. What should we do?
Meanwhile, she got her son married, renovated her house etc.
Location – Bangalore.
Please be kind in your responses, we already understand that investing in something like this was a mistake.
