April 25, 2026 at 6:30 pmI am living in India on student visa and I have been living in a hostel in Kolkata for a month. Before renting I clearly told them that I’d only be living for 2 or 3 months. However, they put 6 months lockin period on the bill and my sister didn’t put much attention to it thinking I would be able to vacate after 2 months. When I notified that I’d be vacating after 3 months after living in that hostel for a week they refused saying that they wouldn’t give back the security deposit of 7.5k. Also they have started harrassing me and their words do not match their actions.I also needed FRRO upon 14 days arrival. And they are also refusing to give me a rental agreement for below 6 months. Without rental agreement I wouldn’t be able to register an FRRO and I’ll be charged penalty for every additional day. I have only finished one month. And now living in constant panic about what to do… As any legal consequences might cause the revocation of my visa. I need advice on what to do.
Also whether it would be okay to not give rent for 15 days in a month and leave to at least redeem half of my security deposit. If I do it will they take any action against me? They still keep denying even though they have clients willing to replace me. What should I do? Urgent help needed
