April 24, 2026 at 9:57 pmI have joined multiple groups on telegram for preparing for competitive entrance exams (ironically for law entrances). A group of people in these groups which I believe are no older than 20-22 themselves has been using certain apps and ‘bots’ to doxx out details about other members for fun.A guy DMed me my own details, more specifically my mother’s details (inferring from the fact that the details referred my address as “W/O [my father’s name]”), along with my parent’s names, my personal mobile phone number and my address. While the message also included fields for email ID and aadhar number, they weren’t displayed in my case.
For reference, I am a fairly technically educated person myself and make sure not to fall for scams and traps. I keep all my information private and don’t interact with such people at all. I know that people usually buy breached databases from telecom companies or govt data, and use it to pick out details about individuals using certain apps and bots, which in this case, the guy claimed to have ‘built’ himself.
I am a little shook at the fact that someone completely unknown to me could find these details out so randomly. While I understand that the intent behind such acts are purely mischevious, what should I do further? Any advice would be much appreciated.
