May 8, 2026 at 1:23 amIn 2017, I visited a dental clinic in Aliganj, Lucknow for a basic teeth whitening procedure.During the appointment, a different treatment (dental bonding) was performed instead. My concern is that the procedure was not clearly explained to me in detail beforehand, especially the extent of enamel reduction involved and the long-term implications. The explanation given was minimal and not enough for me to understand what would actually be done to my natural teeth.
During the procedure, I became aware that my front teeth were being filed. I tried to express discomfort at that moment, but the procedure continued.
After the treatment, I experienced immediate and ongoing complications with the bonding. Over the years, I have consulted multiple dentists in both India and the U.S. and have undergone repeated corrective treatments. I have supporting documentation including photos, treatment records, bills, and written opinions from multiple dental professionals who later treated me.One of the dentists I consulted later told me that the bonding had been done in a way that contributed to long-term dental complications and that I may require ongoing dental maintenance and treatment in the future.
This situation has had a serious impact on my confidence, mental well-being, and finances. It has resulted in a cycle of continuous dental treatment over several years.
I have raised this matter through official channels. A complaint is currently under review, and the case has been escalated for disciplinary consideration by the relevant dental council authorities.
I also attempted to communicate concerns with the clinic after the procedure, but did not receive a satisfactory response.
I am sharing this here to ask:
Has anyone experienced something similar with cosmetic dental procedures or bonding done without clear informed consent?
What usually happens in cases where consent is disputed in dental complaints?
Any advice on long-term management after enamel reduction and failed bonding?
