April 25, 2025 at 5:14 pmI recently vacated a rented flat in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, and my landlord still hasn’t returned my security deposit of ₹47,000, even after 25 days and multiple reminders.I was on good terms with them throughout the stay and genuinely trusted them when they said they’d refund it in 5–10 days after I moved out. (Stupid me, I know.)
But once I left, they suddenly started accusing me of things like: “The cots are broken”, “Rooms are smelly” and “Flat isn’t in good condition”
This was never brought up during my stay. In fact, a month before vacating, they visited multiple times to show the flat to new prospective tenants. I also allowed them to do wall repairs and painting work while I was still living there, despite the inconvenience it caused me.
Now, I’m in Hyderabad, Telangana, and communication has just gone cold.
My questions:
1. Can I file a any complaint or fraud case from Telangana, or do I need to be physically present in Gujarat?
2. Is there a way to pursue this legally without traveling back?
3. They haven’t provided me any PAN details, so most probably they might not have declared rental income in their ITR, can some complaint be made out of this?
4. Or should I just consider this a loss and move on?
Honestly, more than the money, I’m furious about the two-faced behavior of the landlord and his wife. I trusted them and got taken for a ride.
Any legal advice or similar experiences would really help.
