April 25, 2025 at 2:37 pmMy best-friend broke up with her boyfriend after 2 years of relationship. I knew him as well, and he was a good friend. But ever since their break up he has been harassing her and me as well. He creates fake IDs and text everyone she has ever known, he tells them personal stuff and even stalks us. I have seen him multiple times near my house and he even approached me 2-3 times and I was lowkey scared but since I knew him I didn’t take any action. He has been doing this for 2 months and refuses to accept that the IDs are made by him. When he met me in real(during stalking) he tried to threatened me- he said “You have no idea what I’ll do so you better don’t say anything and ask her to talk to me” but I didn’t say anything to anyone. He pretends to be really sweet on the outside and even after the breakup I respected him because he was a friend, but it’s getting extreme now.For a few days he was silent but again he started with the Fake IDs stuff- I was infuriated and out of frustration I said some very bad things to him. Like abused him really really bad and asked him to stop- I told him we’ll go to the police this time. (Me and my friend didn’t want to escalate it so we spoke to his family and asked them to stop him but they couldn’t care less) he told me I’ll also file a complaint, I have your voice recordings where you abused me.
Now, my question is if he does something to himself, will I go to jail because I said some very bad things to him? (I never asked him to kill himself or harm himself) but I did call him loser, abused his family etc etc. I have never said him anything bad and always treated him like a good friend but he’s not stopping and that made me lash out. He said he didn’t do anything, those IDs are not his. Even if the IDs are not his (they are) the stalking? The threatening? If he does something, will I be he held guilty?

April 25, 2025 at 2:41 pmHi. I’m a Delhi based lawyer. Would suggest you to file a police complaint against him, to be safe, if you deem it appropriate. God forbid something goes wrong tomorrow, you’ll have prior record of his wrongdoings and it’ll keep you in a safer space.-

April 25, 2025 at 2:43 pmIf I go to the police, they’ll see that I did say all those things- abused him and all, can I go to jail because of that?-

April 25, 2025 at 2:56 pmNo. Fighting and abusing isn’t a crime really. Stalking, threatening etc is.-

April 25, 2025 at 3:10 pmIf I’m not wrong, there have been cases where the courts judged that abetment of suicide is applicable only when the accused abuses (mentally or physically) the victim to the extent that the victim has no other choice than to commit suicide.-

April 25, 2025 at 3:15 pmI’m just not on abetment of suicide here. A person of this personality can take any wrong step, against either, so best to safeguard yourself.-

April 25, 2025 at 3:12 pm1. Abetment of suicide is not applied so easily. Sure, it might be threatened, but courts have, time and time again, laid down strict parameters and dismissed fictitious cases. You are in the clear here.
2. The same applies to the audio recordings; this is petty enough that little to no action is taken. You are not going to jail because of that.
3. You, on the other hand, would be wise to register a complaint regarding his actions.
