My wife is trying to officially publish a Gazette Notification through the Central Government Gazette to declare a clerical error on her birth certificate. The birth certificate lists her name as “<NAME 1>,” whereas all her other official documents correctly mention her name as “<NAME 2>.”

Initially, we attempted to get the name corrected directly on the original birth certificate itself. However, after several months of repeatedly visiting the local municipality, we were informed that it is not possible due to the nature and extent of the clerical error (the birth certificate name being entirely different from her current recognized name). All other official documents, including 10th class certificate, Passport, Aadhaar, PAN, Voter ID, etc., bear her correct name, “<NAME 2>.” Therefore, we have opted to pursue this gazette notification instead.

The Central Government Gazette notification is specifically required as part of our application process for a US spousal visa, which will necessitate presenting a corrected and officially recognized birth certificate or a birth certificate along with a Gazette publication in the Central Government.

        So far, she has:

        1. Created an affidavit for name correction on INR 50 stamp paper.

        2. Published notifications in the Times of India (Hyderabad Edition, English) and Eenadu (Hyderabad Edition, Telugu).

        3. Gathered original copies of her birth certificate and other identity proofs (Aadhaar, Passport, etc.).

        Could anyone guide us on:

        1. What further steps are required to complete the official Gazette Notification process?
        2. What specific documents/forms must be submitted?
        3. Where do we submit these documents?
        4. Typically, how long does this process take?

For context, we both live and reside in Hyderabad. Any advice or experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
