SSo I just read this case highlighted by Deepika Bharadwaj on twitter.
The court ordered husband to pay 63 Lacs in alimony despite the wife being the one who committed cruelty.
This article is so shocking. Why won’t men commit suicides?

Men go away and serve longer sentences for crime they didn’t even commit. The can be arrested on the word of the woman.

RDid you not read the “as long as you have money”. The justice system favours the rich irrespective of gender. Privileged women misuse law all the time. The women who actually need alimony support, need their abusive husbands behind bar rarely get any help. I have seen it first hand. Men and women buying the police and judges lmao. Recently read about a judge who asked the culprit in a rape case to marry their victim. Open your eyes.

SThe behavior which is rewarded will increase.
So if anyone asks, why anything is on the rise among common population, be it crime like SA or R word, or nonsense like false cases and cruelty. Its because that is rewarded in some form or not punished properly.It wont go down until there is a proper reform in laws and judiciary. Or if there’s some form of social change.

DIt’s not the judge, it’s the law. In India, you can’t get a divorce if your partner refuses to consent. You must prove grounds like cruelty, adultery, a contagious disease, or religious conversion. This legal rigidity fuels conflict in matrimonial disputes. The law doesn’t allow you to move on unless your partner agrees, often turning consent into a tool for exploitation and in most cases, it’s men who face this.
Additionally, there’s a points system for judges. If a woman challenges a judge’s decision, it can negatively impact their score, affecting their career growth. Other factors also come into play, adding to the complexity.
The need for legal reform is clear. Judges act as referees, interpreting the law, hearing arguments, and delivering judgments. Only Supreme Court judges have the authority to question the law itself. For others, it’s often just a matter of following precedents and applying existing rules.

FI mean if you have to blame someone, blame the laws. Cruelty is only a ground for divorce. Nothing more or less. Same for the alimony, the sum is calculated based on a lot of things and the calculation method can be considered somewhat vague but again, alimony and maintenance are rarely affected by grounds of divorce unless the women has some source of income or the husband can prove she can sustain herself to reduce the alimony to some extent. The amount you see here? In reality much of it isn’t paid once the case is done. It will be settled outside the court. People often forget that judges are bound by laws and they can only follow it, they want it or not.

UIn this case the wife challenged the lower court order of dissolution of the marriage subject to the payment of 63lakh permanent alimony. In the appeal the husband did not challenged the permanent alimony specifically. There was no specific prayer challenging the amount by the husband. Therefore the HC did not interfered regarding this subject. One has to specifically pray for their demands. In this case it was not done by the husband. Law is too technical. There is nothing wrong in the judgement.
