February 22, 2025 at 2:41 pmHi, I am the father of a 5-year-old daughter. We moved back from the US to India in 2023. I enrolled my daughter in this school in Ghaziabad for the 2024-25 session in Senior KG. She is very disciplined and does well in her studies.Initially, she used to complain that her teacher would get angry for no reason and yell at every child in the class. One day, when I went to pick her up, I saw her teacher yelling at one of the kids. I immediately reported this to the school. That same day, I received a call from the coordinator. I told her that I would not send my daughter to school until her class was changed or the teacher was removed. She asked me to come to the school to meet her in person.
When I went to the school, she assured me that she would address the issue but also blamed it on the fact that my daughter was still adjusting to the Indian system. She also mentioned that the teacher had been with the school for many years.
For the next few weeks, everything seemed fine, but then we started noticing behavioral changes in our daughter. She began saying sorry even when she hadnβt done anything wrong. She got scared if her nails werenβt trimmed. She became excessively anxious about completing her homework. When she fell sick, she worried that missing school would make her teacher angry.
When my wife tried to discuss these concerns with the teacher, she dismissed them, saying that we were worrying too much and that schools in India function differently from those in the US.
I feel I should do something about this school. I think others simply take their kids to different schools. But ideally this school should be penalised for harassing students.
Any advice?

February 22, 2025 at 2:50 pmI homeschool my kids now. They are happier, healthier and study more themselves. Make their bed, wash their own clothes.I saw parents literally asking teachers to scold their daughters more to study harder in a pta meeting.
Most of the parents want their kids to be disciplined by school. That’s what it is.
I have tried two schools, wasted lots of money but my kids are precious, hence i homeschool them.

February 22, 2025 at 2:55 pmI actually enrolled her in an online school Vikalp in 2023-24. I started sending her to physical school so that she can play and socialise. But the school has huge playground just to showoff. She told me that rarely go to the playground. I guess I will go back to that online school.-

I thought, when I pay already high maintenance for my society parks and club house, why should I even look for similar facilities in school.

February 22, 2025 at 3:29 pmPlease share a few insights on how to go about home schooling because I genuinely don’t see any logic in sending a child to school other than socializing.I’ve been planning to homeschool from the start but am highly confused about how to keep it up as the child grows and what would be the future.

February 22, 2025 at 2:56 pmYou can go to the court but the case would drag on , unfortunately in India if you want US type patience and understanding from school teachers then put your child in some of the super expensive schools where children of cricketers and film stars study.-

February 22, 2025 at 3:51 pmIDK about the quality of Podar in Delhi but all the branches of Podar in Mumbai are cream of the crop schools I have studied in both the branches and can tell you if you find a Podar in Delhi enroll her they control the teachers and heavily interview them and have a three strike system for teachers. They charge about 2Lakh a year in Mumbai you might need to check for delhi. -

February 22, 2025 at 3:51 pmThere is a typical toxicity of Indian parents where they do not want to recognize any agency of the children. Like , if they say you to jump, you say how many times. No questions, no explanations. Many of Indian school teachers are petty like that. It doesn’t matter to them whether the student is doing good. They want their share of subservience. Else they shout , intimidate and even resort to physical abuse. All in the facade of being a good, strict teacher. Many Indian teachers lack empathy. ‘ Taare Zameen Par’ was on point regarding this. -

February 22, 2025 at 4:41 pmindians think shouting on children and harassing them will get them disciplined but idk when will their thinking change. Teachers can also be polite and discipline the children, itβs not that hard to be honest. In my school, girls werenβt allowed to apply mehendi on their hands, and if they applied mehendi, they were sent back home for one day and I found this really stupid. And they ahd stupid excuse for that rule. Please take a stand for your daughter bcoz honestly the environment around her in the school looks toxic. -

I’ve heard good things. Though your kid might end up hanging out with entitled douche bags.No legal advise.

February 22, 2025 at 9:56 pmI don’t understand the problem with Indian schools, the stupid rules they have implemented like no long hairs, no mehendi, specific hairstyles for boys and girls etc… and if you don’t follow these you will be humiliated or scolded giving you life long trauma and social anxiety. They are just trying the easiest way to discipline kids while ignoring the importance of individuality, emotional well-being, and healthy self-expression, ultimately leading to long-lasting trauma, social anxiety, and a lack of confidence in children.

February 22, 2025 at 10:24 pmWelcome to India. Here teachers will happily beat students. Itβs coming to slap students for not knowing an answer, or sometimes answering a question correctly but too confidently. The Indian school system is completely fucked up. Itβs a miracle more kids donβt grow up with anxiety or end up autistic. -

Sir please homeschool her/ see if you can shift her to some school which is for diplomats/NRIs…That girl will be permanently scarred for life if you continue her in Indian school.
The system here is brutal, harsh and designed around forced compliance and enforcing submission..You will need to act very fast.. Girl is very young and highly impression-able…

February 23, 2025 at 11:17 amA lot of people have said that court takes a lot of time so I dont advise to get into that. But a legal notice can do wonders. Cite section 75 of the Juvenile Justice Act that punished teachers for all torture of children, including mental. You can also say you have tried your best to approach the school but they have taken no action-

February 23, 2025 at 9:19 pmCommon Indian missionary school practise. Good to know now they have started slutshamimg kids before class II.Check ypur daughter for marks. Corporal punishment was banned, but a twist of the ear, a ruler to the palm and rear and hair grabbing is always a possibility.
Teach your daughter good & bad touch.
Best course of action? Go back to USA and enroll her in a private school there.
Good day, may your daughter have a bright future.
