March 19, 2025 at 8:08 amI’ve a Slice (North East Small Finance Bank) savings account with their Bangalore branch that got credit frozen on 28th February. I withdrew my savings balance. I reside in Kolkata. The account was opened over the internet. The problem: I’ve a FD worth Rs. 95000 with them but I’m unable to pre close it as my account has been “credit frozen at CBS due to suspicious activities”.
I contacted customer support but they were of absolutely no help. I sent an email to nodal officer 15 days ago but haven’t even received even an acknowledgement. And I am very sure they’ll not reply.
As a student from middle class, this amount is huge and is a significant amount to me. I saved this amount over 6-7 years.
Now, what should be my way forward? And is that money still money? Will I ever get it?
I know about RBI Ombudsman but the statistics (only 26 out of 100 complaints are in favour of the customer) are against me and have read instances of credit freeze (Fi) where RBI simply rejected the claim.
What do I do?
And is there a way I can raise 95,000 from several people by asking? This is a very crucial amount and as college’s new semester is coming up, I will need it.
I don’t know what to do now. Please help me and guide me.

March 19, 2025 at 8:52 amDespite statistics (not sure about the accuracy of the stat you mentioned), raise a complaint with RBI Ombudsman. Since you have mailed customer care around 15 days ago, wait for another 15 more, while following up with them, and then raise the complaint. My dad recently had a case of wrong charges on his personal loan after closure, and RBI Ombudsman helped in that case. We found it to be helpful.-

Yes doing that
>RBI Ombudsman helped in that case.
Can you please guide with the following: 1. Approximate total time required 2. Procedures after filling the complaint 3. Any documents that I may be required to furnish

Nothing much, you will need to submit the form and receive an acknowledgement for that. Post which the ombudsman will initiate the investigation.. Might ask for a few documents as proof (FD receipt, etc). In our case we were kept on loop through periodic update calls.
> Any documents that I may be required to furnish
I think initially you will have to show proof of mail to the bank at least 30 days prior to the complaint. You may be asked for further documents such as FD details, bank statement if necessary, PAN, aadhar, etc. The ombudsman will let you know if needed.

March 19, 2025 at 8:48 amGo to the head office and speak with them in person. Send a registered notice to the nodal officer. They will have no choice but to reply to it and tell you why your account was frozen. Ask them if it was frozen due to an order from any authority. If it was, speak to that authority and tell them you’ll comply with the investigation procedure. Also let the bank know that regardless of the freeze, you expect interest amount to accrue on the FD.
If there is still no resolution, then hire a lawyer and file a writ, and write to the RBI ombudsman.

No they say it was done due to “suspicious activity” not any authority.

March 22, 2025 at 4:02 amApproach the bank to obtain the letter or notice detailing the reasons for freezing your account. Based on this information, consult a local lawyer who will identify the relevant police station and crime number if a crime has been registered. Subsequently, you can file a defreeze petition in court. This process can be managed by a novice lawyer, so the legal fees should not exceed 5,000 to 10,000 INR. Lawyer fees vary based on their reputation and experience; therefore, it is crucial to select a lawyer according to the complexity of your case. Just as you would expect to pay more for a consultation with a corporate hospital or an MD doctor for a routine viral fever, you should be prepared to compensate your lawyer based on their expertise rather than solely on the nature of your legal issue.
