I am an instagram reseller and book orders via DMs. There was a DM on the 15th of March for a dress and they wanted to know the delivery estimate. I wrote to them about it saying it takes “3-4 days max” which is usual transit time with Delhivery. Since most DMs preface with this I only give them an estimate which does not always account for the booking time and delay with the courier company that sometimes happen in transit. This person places her order the next day on the 16th of March and I update her booking ID on the 18th of March. The courier is picked up the next day or so with other booked packages. Now, today, on the 23rd of March her parcel shows out for delivery but due to technical issue on the Delhivery app there is a “delayed” banner and her package would now reach her tomorrow. She blows up my phone in the morning and says the dress is of no use to her if it doesn’t reach her by today and that she won’t be able to attend her best friend’s marriage. I immediately proceeded to raise a ticket with Delhivery support and wrote a mail requesting order delivery to be escalated. She kept pining blame on me when she never once mentioned she needed the product on a stipulated date for an event. Now she is threatening me with litigation and says her husband is a Supreme Court lawyer and will sue me over this. I wanted some insight on if this is any grounds for legal action at all? Because there was no communication about her expectations, or her need for the product on priority, I proceeded with my normal timeline of booking the order with other orders 1-2 days after her payment. She didn’t even pay for normal shipping since I let her pay just the amount for the product alone and was happy to cover the charges on my end. But she suddenly expected me to be hyper aware and dispatch the item the same day on express shipping speed when I was never made aware of her requiring it urgently. I did say “3-4 days” while she never herself shared it was important she receives it within this timeline only. She didn’t mention the parcel being important and the delivery order being time sensitive, not even once. While the item has taken 6 days but that is something that has never been an issue with other people expecting normal deliveries. The order DOES show arrived at her location and is only being held at the warehouse due to what can be attributed to the “unforseen delay” banner shown on the Delhivery app.

Any help and insight would be greatly appreciated!

If you never promised anything like Amazon prime says 1 day delivery, then no issues, you should be fine. If he’s a good SC lawyer he won’t care.

I never promised her anything since she never communicated her expectations. I dropped a default “3-4 day” text to give a usual courier delivery timeline estimate but had I known it was an urgent order, I would have doubled down and booked it out in one day or simply asked her to steer clear of buying from me when the deadline was so tight because I cannot physically control transit delays.

Don’t worry, just be respectful in your communication. Nothing will happen.

Yeah I think I bruised their ego when I replied to their inflammatory texts. Thank you will keep that in mind.
