        I’ve been getting charged an extra 500 on my bill every month for Netflix Premium from my Airtel Wifi plan. On my netflix account, I only have netflix basic. On the Airtel Thanks app, it says that I only have Netflix Basic. ONLY on my bill, I’m being charged for premium.

        I’ve raised multiple support requests and they always tell me the backend team will call me and they never do. The one time they did call me, they said a refund will not be possible since they “don’t offer Netflix premium and don’t track it” which made no sense whatsoever and is basically a lie. Since their app shows I have Netflix Basic I tried upgrading to premium so I at least get premium when I’m already paying for it. It won’t even let me do that. It says premium upgrade is not available on my plan.

        It is clearly some error on their side and the customer support is not competent enough to understand the issue. I’ve even raised a consumer court complaint which was closed after a single call from them that I did not pick up (can’t call this number back).

        I even raised a request to downgrade my plan to one without OTT stuff in hopes that would make the charge go away. They’ve auto-closed that request as well and my plan is still the same.

        I’ve even emailed their appellate authority (21st Oct 2024) and heard nothing back from them. Do I have any other options? I’m just tired of having to deal with their support and explaining the entire thing a hundred times, only to hear the same script again.

          And whats stopping you from cancelling netflix altogether and may be take up as a separate subscription??
          And whats stopping you from going consumer court??

              Airtel is one of the only providers that gives you a static IP in my region. I need a static IP for my work so I’d rather keep the plan than cancel. But if there’s no other option yes, I’ll cancel.

              I’ve made a complaint on [https://consumerhelpline.gov.in/public/](https://consumerhelpline.gov.in/public/) which was closed by them. Nothing stopping me from going consumer court, I’m just not sure how and what that would mean. Can I get an affordable lawyer to help with this or do I do it myself. Sorry for the dumb questions, I’ve googled it and I found a lot of conflicting stuff so I don’t want to mess up.

                  Keep all the records and file consumer complaint they will refund more than what they owe you then

                    It’s a classic case of deficiency of service.

                    In my experience as a lawyer the most effective remedies are –

                    1. Lodge a complaint on the National consumer helpline.
                    2. Serve them a legal notice.
                    3. File a case before the consumer court.

                    You have a strong case and you should pursue it.

                      Try upgrading netflix to the plan airtel is charging you for, then revert to basic after a month. Worth a try bro

                          Yup, tried already. It says premium upgrade is not available on my plan.

                          Tried to do it from Netflix settings as well, doesn’t work.

                          I think thr best would be to threaten them with closing the connection. Finally they will respond to your complaints, and then you can ask them to remove netflix altogether and provide refund for additional charges incurred as conditions to stay. You should subscribe directly to Netflix separately rather than through airtel. These guys provide no additional services and just add complications

                            I have worked as customer support in airtel wifi.

                            Let me tell you something we know nothing about these ott apps.
                            No one would train us or explain about these things. Not even the Team leader have a clue about these things. They would just make random guess from things mentioned in outdated support portal. The callback you talking about is made by the same staff, who also have a zero clue on how to fix it.

                            The best and easiest course of action you can take is by threatening to close the connection permanently. Retention team which also have no clue about it, will raise a request and maybe after that the collection team will call you and waive off the charges and maybe fix it.

                              Put a request to port your number to another service provider. Their customer rep will call you to insist that you stay with Airtel. At the point tell them this issue. They will resolve it ASAP.

                                  Of course this is a practical advice. Not a legal one.

                                  Legal way would be to file a consumer case.

                                  Similar isue with my Airtel Account where Netflix is subscribed on some fictitious nme that is not mine. Despite repeated requests, i’m unable to remove it and Airtel Customer Service sucks.

                                      My issue was still not resolved.

                                      I gave up and moved away from Airtel cause I found another ISP that provides a static IP and has much better customer support/resolution time at least in my area.
