        I first met my husband when I was 17 years old, and he was 30. We got married when I was 19 and he was 33. My husband had already been married once before and had a child from that marriage, whom he left with his ex-wife. I married without the consent of my parents.

        Just five days after our marriage, my husband started physically abusing me. Even when I was pregnant with our child, he continued to beat me. Soon after our wedding, he sold all the jewelry that my parents had given me as dowry. My husband was unemployed and survived on the money my parents gave. I used to ask for money from my family and give it to him so he could run his household.

        A few months into the marriage, I found out that my husband was having an affair. I forgave him for the sake of my daughter. But a few years later, I found out about another affair, which pushed me to attempt suicide. My husband never spoke about my suicide attempt.

        My husband used to inappropriately touch my sister and send her double-meaning messages. He took lakhs of rupees from my family for his business but never returned any of it. He lived in my maternal aunt’s house for five years without paying rent or electricity bills.

        In 2020, I found out about yet another affair. I saw an MMS of him with another woman. Still, being physically handicapped and having married without my family’s consent, I felt helpless and never told my parents anything.

        Throughout our marriage, my husband and his family physically abused me and called me names like “langdi” (cripple). In December 2024, my husband sent me to my maternal home saying I should prepare for a government job, but he went to Bhubaneswar to live with his affair partner and then forbade me from ever returning to my marital home. While I was at my maternal home, he took my daughter away on the pretext of taking her for an outing and never let me meet her again.

        My husband and in-laws have brainwashed my daughter against me. I filed a case at the women’s police station (Mahila Thana) in Sambalpur, but the IIC there took no action. Instead, she made fun of my disability and supported my husband.

        My husband now lives with his affair partner in Bhubaneswar, leaving my daughter alone with his parents. I even submitted a grievance to the Chief Minister of Odisha, who directed immediate action—but still, the IIC of the women’s police station did nothing.

        I am a physically handicapped woman, and my mother is a widow. We have no source of income, so it’s difficult to fight a case in court. Please make this post viral so it can reach the authorities. I just want my daughter back—nothing else.

        Here’s the photo of fIR copy . I’m posting this from my sister’s account as i dont have a reddit account

                    **Have you ever tried filing a complaint directly in court?**
                    Sometimes, when the police don’t take action—even after you complain to the Chief Minister—nothing seems to work.
                    In such cases, you can file your complaint directly with the **local Magistrate Court**. Just make sure to include all your **evidence and documents** with the complaint.

                        Hey , I’m not very educated . I’m just 12th pass, so I don’t have much knowledge about this matter. My mother and I have no source of income, and we didn’t know how to proceed further with this case. But after you informed us, we will file the case.

                              There are several legal actions you can take against him. Since you are handicapped and your husband is refusing to support you, you can file a maintenance case. If your child is under 18, you can also file for child custody.

                              In addition, you can file:

                              * A domestic violence case
                              * A divorce case
                              * A dowry harassment case
                              * A case for cruelty by your husband or his relatives under Section 498a of the IPC or Section 85 of the BNS

                              Make sure to submit all the proof you have, including:

                              * Evidence of what he did to you
                              * Evidence showing cheating
                              * Any other evidence that supports your case

                                  A lawyer here.

                                  I understand what you’re going through. In fact, I am handling a case that is almost identical to yours. My client is a lady who had a brain stroke and suffered paralysis. Her father died prior to marriage. The husband abandoned her, and married another woman. The husband and his second wife have two kids now, while my client lives with paralysis with her widow mother and an unmarried sister. We have filed a FIR, a divorce petition, and a petition for maintenance.

                                  To you, I’ll be direct – please don’t expect, as became apparent reading your responses to people’s comments on this post seeking retweets, police or government officials to work in your favour just because few people have retweeted your grievance. Even if your grievance attracted thousands of reshares, the hype will die sooner or later and the matter will gain only dust.

                                  It is not your fault that the machinery will not investigate injustice despite receiving the complaint (through offline or online modes). It is the miserable, unfortunate, and dark reality of Indian justice system.

                                  Realistically, if you want some remedies against the people who subjected you to cruelty, you will have to spend some money. You’ll need to hire a good lawyer. The only exception to this is if you find a lawyer who takes up your case pro bono (i.e., just for the good cause, without charging you anything). But in any case, a decent lawyer is a must.

                                  If you are not able to find any, you can approach the Legal Aid Cell of your city. It is a government cell that helps disadvantaged people get access to lawyers free of cost. As it is with all free lunches in the world, the quality is not at all reliable. If I was poor and I was stuck without money needing a lawyer, I would better plead with someone good to take my case for free, or on the promise of delayed payment, rather than hiring the legal aid guys. However, I am speaking this based on my experience in Rajasthan, your city may have better alternatives.

                                    Apart from consulting a good lawyer, shame him publicly, putting forward all the details that you can prove.
