PI bought a Lenovo laptop on Amazon and after receiving it, I found out that it has different serial number than I ordered and it’s warranty is already activated ( sep 2024). I ordered it in April 2025. When I complained to Amazon, they said that after their investigation they found that product delivered was correct and they can’t do anything about it. I made a video while unboxing and have also complained on Consumer Helpline. I fear that they may lie to consumer Helpline since I can’t upload video due to it’s big size.
Can any of you let me know what should I do about it? -
DIt’s just so pointless to buy such exorbitantly priced products online. More often than not, it causes chaos. You’ll have no choice but to send them a legal notice and file a consumer complaint, if the consumer helpline doesn’t come to your aid.

Well, sometimes people are helpless. Like I can relate right now. Currently I am posted at a very very remote place and if I want to buy anything that is not generic, either I have to drive more than 300KM or I have to take a flight back to my hometown just to purchase a product for a reasonable price.

BYou can use video compression tools to optimise or reduce the video quality and yes file legal case as if they are denying the warranty or they have sold used products sold to you. If you have all the proofs then document all the commication.

PI am barely able to see serial number in video, if I compress it to under 5 mb which is allowed in Consumer Helpline, then they won’t be able to see it.

PYeah it’s different on invoice and different on Lenovo box but Amazon claim it’s the same so how will I be able to prove it’s not?

AUnfortunately, the only option is to fight a legal case. Amazon has changed drastically after Bezos stepped down. Outside of AWS, they are making big losses in the online store business in India, and are actively looking to get rid of non profitable customers. You may have a genuine case, but in many cases they have been defrauded by people returning different products than they ordered. While the earlier Amazon policy was to give the benefit of doubt to the customers, that has drastically changed now. They are trying to protect themselves from fraud, but genuine cases like yours are also suffering because of that.

Does the bill serial number have same number of digits as the serial number present on the box?
Lenovo can change the warranty date if you upload bill which has serial number and the date of purchase is mentioned on the bill.
Lenovo warranty starts a few months after date of manufacture automatically (Lenovo Vantage software when installed on the laptop, shows the date of expiry of warranty). When I had bought a laptop from offline shop, the manufacturing date was some 10 months back. What I remember is that the warranty had already started. But I registered for the warranty at the offline shop itself. After 10-14 working days, I received an email regarding warranty confirmation and ADP activation. After that, the expiry date changed within Lenovo Vantage app.

If yes, please install Lenovo Vantage software from Microsoft store (it may also be pre-installed. The icon will be in the system tray or you can search for it after clicking Start button)The Vantage software also shows the serial number of the laptop. Try to see if the serial number shown inside Vantage is written anywhere on your bill or not.
I feel that Amazon has written the Model number of the laptop rather than the actual serial number of the laptop on the bill (it usually does this only for most electronic products. Mostly it prints the product number rather than serial number of phone/ext HDD/Pen drive on the bill)
When I bought a Lenovo laptop in 2017 from Amazon, I had to message the seller via Amazon to get the actual invoice with dealer stamp (Lenovo needed this for warranty registration at the time. Nowadays, if it is a verified seller on Amazon/FK, I don’t think it asks for the actual bill with dealer stamp)

Warranty issues will get fixed when you register with Lenovo and send them a copy of the bill.
The serial number is to be taken from the laptop. Check the box in which it came and the laptop. All details on that, specifications and model no should match.

PBro here’s what you can do : 1st step is you send a legal notice to Amazon ( note: it’s not compulsory to hire a lawyer to sent a legal notice you yourself can do that. Sent it through India post mail and collect proof of post and delivery information this will be helpful as evidence to show to court that you have already sent a legal notice to opponent to solve the case ) give them 7-15 days of time to reply in the notice and write your ask for ex : replacement or compensation for the mental harassment, losses etc. if they don’t reply after the said time in notice, Immediately File a Case at your district Consumer Court.

I ordered ASUS vivobook laptop worth 53k and they delivered scrap monitor piece wrapped with two shiny black marble pieces wrapped with cello 2″ big clear tape. And after creating return amazon refused to take it back, any how I managed to give them their shit back, but in a nut shell worst experience
Looks like amazon has successfully partnered with click tech pvt ltd in scamming and looting customers.
If they dont ban such cheap local sellers then thier downfall is on the way
