January 30, 2025 at 1:50 pmHi everyone,I’m about to sign a contract with an interior design company for work on a property in India. So far, all our discussions have taken place via email. However, I’m currently not in India, so the contract will be signed digitallyโsigned PDF attachment exchanged over email.
I know that in most developed countries, this is generally considered legally valid, but Iโve heard that in India, certain contracts need to be registered to hold legal weight. Iโm unsure whether this requirement applies only to tenancy agreements and similar contracts or whether it also applies to service contracts like this one.
Would appreciate any advice on:
* Whether a digitally signed contract would be legally enforceable in India.
* Any best practices to ensure the contract is valid and enforceable.
* Whether any additional steps (like stamping or registration) are needed to make it legally binding. Thanks in advance for your insights!

January 30, 2025 at 2:06 pmHi, thats what I have been reading, but I haven’t been able to figure out how to sign an Aadhaar-based contract as an individual with a company. Also, wondering if someone manually signs the contract and sends it via their company email, would that be considered not valid?

Get your contract reviewed. Further, once signed put the contract in email and take confirmation of signing it.ย
Additional security, get it register and stamped.ย

February 1, 2025 at 8:50 amHi,Thanks a lot for your input. We have a stallmate, as the company does not want to add a compensation clause for “delays” to the project. It seems that most interior design firms dont like the idea of contracts in India.
For digital contract, should it be confirmed by email, by the person signing it?
For me to get it stamped and registered, what is the process? Do I need to be in India, do both parties need to be present?
Thanks
