UI’m a 32 year-old who applied for a passport from Saket , New Delhi . Today was a date for police verification and police showed up at my house . During verification, the officer asked me to submit either of my fathers’ birth certificate.
My parents were born in small villageof assam migrated to delhi at the age of around 11 .. worked in small factory of okla and then settled in saket, he do not have birth certificates, as it was not common during their time. The oldest document he has is voter id card issued in 1996 … I tried to provide my his old voter id card as proof of nationality , but the officer insisted to get birth certificate.
I thought he was trying to ask the bribe so I gave him chai pani . But he refuses taking it . After too much request . He told me he will have a talk with his senior and will keep your file on hold for 4 days , before giving his final verdict… I am worried guys …please help . Neither I can make my father’s birth certificate as he is 65 yrs old with no prior memory before ..
Is there a easy quick way to get old person brith certificate with in 4 days ??
What should I do now? How can I resolve this issue and proceed with my passport application?

UIs it possible that your name is not on Delhi voter list? I think this request might be linked to SIR
Was officer also not willing to take Father’s high school mark sheet ?

UBoth of my parents name is on SIR 2002.. my name is there in current voter list but not on 2002 voter list as i was under 18 at that time

UHis name is also present in SIR 2002 . Electoral officer said those whose name appears on SIR dont proof of citizenship. They are already citizen … I even told him that and showed him father’s name on sir . He said it won’t work

USo he didn’t accept parent’s high school mark sheet? Normally older folks don’t have BC anyways
Or your parents don’t have the high school certificate and hence only option is BC?

UMy parents dont have high school certificates..also he was strictly asking father birth certificate. Keep bringing up father’s birth certificate during the whole interview

UI got the report … police report not clear …went to rpo ..they are not cooperating . They say we have 100 of different people to see like this … he has reinitiated police verification.. I found similar cases of multiple people so I am asking here . People are stuck in this loophole bcoz of unnecessary documents asked by police …which is not even mentioned in list of documents… irony is I am the one making the passport not my father… even if has doubt about my father’s nationality then there are other ways to prove nationality why ask one documents strictly…no?

UPolice verification is just to make sure the person doesn’t have any cases registered against him and to verify address/ background cerification- technically they may also ask around in private if such a person lives in the locality.
There is no need for police to verify any of the documents or ask for your parents documents. This is pure harassment. I have seen people complaining in reddit about police asking about certificates nobody has- just to harass. Like proof of citizenship etc ( there is no one single document in India to prove one’s citizenship). Secondly- In your parents’ birth certificate- even passport offices are not strict about birth certificates of people born before 1980. A letter from member of local body is sufficient. Coz in that era, many people were born outside Hospital and govt know that.
All certificates needed for your passport are already submitted by you to the passport office and they have verified the original.
This is just pure harassment to get more bribe. You must send an email to the SP of your area and raise this to the respective passport office. Central govt. Offices like passport offices are usually very strict about bribery. You will get a resolution.
