April 28, 2025 at 8:02 amHi all,
We’ve been living at this place in Bangalore for the last 1 year. Sometime ago, the owners LG washing machine broke down and the LG technician told that the washing machine can’t be fixed as the mother board was worn down. He told us there’s no way to fix it as the model was a very old one and there’s no spare parts available also as the company discountinued the production. We’ve communicated the same with the owner back then. We’ve recently vacated the house and now the owner is giving us two options.
1. Get the washing machine repaired ( there’s no way to do it )
2. Replace the 10 year old washing machine with a new one.The rental agreement has the below clause
“Notwithstanding anything contained herein, upon the expiry or earlier termination of the Lease Deed, the Lessee shall hand over the vacant possession of the Scheduled Premises to the Lessor (in a similar condition as at the time of occupation, normal wear and tear excepted) and the Lessor shall refund all unadjusted amounts paid by the Lessee to the Lessor in relation to the lease of the Scheduled Premises. ”
Now , we feel that this is a very unfair ask as the washing machine broke down naturally. It is not a physical damage caused by us. It’s a mother board issue which we don’t have any involvement with.
Please someone advise. The landlord hasn’t paid back our deposit yet and we badly need it.
TIA

April 28, 2025 at 9:15 amOur 4 year old whirlpool washing machine broke down because of motherboard issue. Called the company and they sent a technician who told that the whole motherboard needs to be changed as it can’t be repaired, we then called a technician from UC and he repaired the motherboard at reasonable cost. You could alsocontact UC
find a local technician
or buy a similar washing machine

April 28, 2025 at 10:39 amGive the motherboard to a electronics repair person, if the active components like IC are not damaged but passive component is damaged, they can easily repair it.Else just give him the money by calculating the price depreciation of the machine during 10 years

April 28, 2025 at 5:01 pmIsn’t this part of wear and tear?
Machines do wear out over time and this is what exactly happened with it. It’s not your fault.
Try to have a conversation with him and see if it works. If it doesn’t, then as someone mentioned, replace it with a 10 year old machine. -

April 28, 2025 at 7:39 pmLol. Faced something similar but with a TV.The said TV was 6 years old. We moved in and a week later, the TV stopped working. No kids to mess it up, so we don’t know exactly what happened.
I texted the landlord. He ignored. I called and told everything. He asked me to call a technician. I did, the technician said it can’t be repaired. I told the landlord. He said he will arrange for someone to come and look. After a year, no technician arrived. When we were in the process of moving out, he raised the TV issue and refused to give our deposit unless we repaired the TV.
I had my text messages, and emails. This is something we do, to record everything. When I asked why didn’t he tell us beforehand to get it repaired and why waited till we leave, he got passive aggressive.
He asked us to fix it or else he won’t refund. We called a technician. He quoted us 3k to get the job done. I told the landlord and he started insisting that it’s too cheap and he demanded that we call a company technician who gave a quotation of 16k. LOL
In addition to this, he had the audacity to bring up the contract. I tore him a new one. Dragged his broker to the lawyer and sat there while the lawyer drilled some sense into this broker. At last, defeated, the landlord asked us to repair for 3k. We asked him to deduct 3k and return the rest, and get the repair done himself.
So the TV got repaired. And after two months, the landlord told me I need to pay 10k because the TV stopped working again and he needs to call the technician again. I avoided the message. He messaged again after 1 month and this time he had the balls to threaten – if you don’t reply, I will send legal notice.
I lost my shit. I gave him about 10 counterpoints and ended my text with – I will wait for the fckn legal notice.
Two years+ counting, no notice yet.
One of the counter points was- his wife (with a baby under 1 year then, and toddler under 3) will have to come down from Bangalore for the hearing, as per the contract. So basically the entire family’s airfare to and fro, just for 10k. ๐คฃ๐คฃ
Another point was- deal was to give back the TV in the condition we found it. Technically, we couldn’t even watch it after 1 week, so they should be the one refunding us because with our technician at least the TV worked for two months.

April 29, 2025 at 7:45 amFirst option : Buy a used washing machine, of similar make and capacity and replace it.
Second option : Agree on some amount which he can deduct 4 to 5 k to get the same fixed himself .
Third option : Buy the cheapest new machine and see if the cost can be split 50 : 50.Ideally Second option is best, else first .
