Bank not returning Original Documents

Hi all

After my Father passing away, we have sold a property to close of the loans in his name. Which are all in UCO bank as form of an OD and Gold loan.

We have went right from the register office with money from selling to bank and paid off everything on 18th Jan 2025.

From that day on average i am going to bank 10 times a week. The manager is just nodding he will take care of it.

They have to do death claim so need to send the file to head office but for last 2 weeks they are saying the guy who does this is on leave due to personal reasons. Some other reasons daily. Finally i took my Uncle to talk seriously last week, manager said I will do it. Then i saw him forward a mail to head. I suppose they just initiated it then

Its already been more than a month and still today I didn’t get any response.
What should I do?

I dug around , RBI mandated post 30 days banks are liable to pay 5000/per day of delay.

This should get things done, make sure to ask compensation for mental harassment and travel to the bank too.

If it is past 30 days. Send a legal notice to the manager and a copy to the headoffice demanding return of the original documents “intact” and claim that 5000 per day delay amount.

Yes then what other reason can you think of for not returning why would the bank pay penalty of rs5000/-per day and simply return the documents

I feel they are just lazy and negligent. They only remember when i go there and forget after i went away

Tell branch manager that you are filing FIR for criminal negligence & breach of trust against him & CEO of bank.. wait for a week & file it .. if police does not take that file complaint to magistrate, he will order FIR

& ombudsman too

uco bank gives really bad services specially for loans. They wont do it unless yoou take some strict action against them. Send them a legal notice or take legal recourse against them.

now just wait and chill once if they don’t do it immediately don’t force too much, once it around like 10-15 days (if they still delay it) then you get to keep around 50k-1L amount as well.

did you request for the documents in writing ? If you are not going to interact with this bank in the future you can contact the banking ombudsman . Make sure you keep everything documented, that is, keep a paper trail of your correspondence so that you can get compensation.

Send emails to manager as well to maintain written proof.
