February 8, 2025 at 5:57 pmDear all, I would like to know how does one procure a birth certificate in India. My husband doesnβt have his birth certificate, born in Sion Mumbai in the early 80s. The hospital where he was born doesn’t exist anymore. We are now residing in TN. We tried searching for it on the Mumbai Municipal Corp. website to see if he his birth has been registered or not, but weren’t successful. This is quite urgent and I would really appreciate your help. Thank you -

February 8, 2025 at 6:07 pmI am no lawyer but I got my birth certificate in late 20’s. You need to hire lawyer and file case in court and there would be one hearing where judge asked me my name and it lasted 2 minutes. Judge will give order to municipality to issue fresh birth certificate and you need to submit it to municipality and get new birth certificate.Overall process costed me 20k and 2-3 months. It’s just package.
but issue of old birth certificate has been stopped in Maharashtra this month by Chief minister order I think.
Because of many Bangladeshis got fake certificate. Nashik Tehsildar got suspended and gov ordered to stop issuing birth certificate older than 2 years. This is as per my info. You need to confirm with municipality.

February 8, 2025 at 6:19 pmYes in husband case because his birth certificate is older than 2 years. You need check with lawyer and municipality. Court order can bypass chief minister order I think. Just talk to lawyer and enquire cost etc and also visit municipality and talk to anyone there or agent.
