EI fell for most obvious scam in Bangalore. Met a girl on tinder and we were talking for a while and then were on video call and things progressed they recorded my video with my face and naked and we already exchanged insta so they had all my friends and families details. I was very scared so i started paying them money and overall paid them 2.6L. I know very dumb but is there anything I can do now to recover that money. Thats a lot of money for me and even partial recovery is good. Please give advice

P(Not a Lawyer)The only option is to register a complaint with the cyber crime police you can register online as well. You can register by calling on 1903.

EAs a lawyer- sure you can do that- but even then recovering the 2.6 L is next to impossible. You won’t ever see it again. Cyber crime police will take this up as a least priority matter and even if they can catch those guys, it’ll lead to a criminal trial where the state prosecution will have to prove they were the ones who did it- and the OP will have to appear as a witness, testify to chats, videos etc, which will become part of public record. At which stage, if not before (out of good sense) he will want to engage a lawyer- and coming up on 5-10 years for a criminal investigation + trial = easy; 2.6 L+ will be legal fees easy. It’s the sad truth, but frankly, and less as lawyer and more as a human being who’s seen this system and lives in the same world- forget it and move on. If they still threatening you, block them. And if they still hassle you- probably goto the cops then. Delete your insta if you have to- it’ll probably do you good. And come to terms with the fact it happened.

MBro I got a situation similar to this jn my hostel back in 2022 , one of my junior dudes end up paying 1000,2000,upto 10000 being scared of them exposing (dude almost even went to an extent of ending his life for such stuff not even kidding peeps take such stuff very seriously)
But hear me out once I and my friend got hold of the situation I told him to not worry too much and straight up told the scammer I’m registering a complaint to cybercrime and feel free to share his pic well tell their friends it’s deepfake
If you give up ur stand and beg them they’ll take more advantage of u , you shd be like fck it share it if you dare and register a complaint he most likely won’t do such stuff and in today’s world you can easy prove ur innocence by blaming AI but never pay them any money
I’ve seen another similar case of peeps acting like police who traced ur IP going to porn site and demanding money , sad thing is as dumb as it sounds people easily give in and pay them money to escape but rule no 1 of internet never get scared to online threats

SAny way they are going to release the content to your followers or public platform , even if u give them the money or not. But you can report them to cybercrime so no-one else like you can become their nxt victim. Pros of reporting to cybercrime is that even if they release the content publicly , police can get it removed. But your personal followers (family), u can tell them not to accept the messages from the unknown accounts. And about money.. u can only recover if police catches the culprit .
