So initially I took a house with another girl and both of our names are there in the agreement.
I’ve served my lock in at this house (6 months)now and am looking to move elsewhere.
        1. My current flatmate is asking me to look for a replacement (which i am doing) but technically I am under no obligation to look for a replacement as I’ve already served my lock in and given my notice to leave the place. I told my broker to look for one as well and i told her to look as well.

The broker said either the other flatmate will have to pay the rent of the entire house or she’ll need to leave as well if she can’t.

My deposit is also with the owner as of now. What exactly would end up happening if there’s no replacement found? Will I get my deposit back?

        2. The new house I’m shifting into i found through flat and flatmates. The person staying in the room currently is asking me to pay her half of the brokerage that she paid when she found the house. And send the deposit to her instead of the owner.

This seems really sketchy to me as I’m also looking for a replacement for my room but not charging any personal brokerage.

Please advice how to deal with both the situations. My parents are very strict and I can’t afford to lose out on any money here.

She is right to ask you half brokerage. Your obligation to pay half rent or find roommates depend on agreement made with each other. If this is an issue for you – suggest take a PG room basis

How so? I’m also looking for a replacement but not asking for any brokerage from them.

Agreement states we can leave the house after 6 months. Nothing more than that.

File consumer case and seek compensation for your losses

New roomie asking for deposit is a problematic one. While living as bachelors, we didnโ€™t think much and did this. A new person coming to our flat gave his deposit to the old one who was leaving.

The issue came after few months when we had to vacate the flat. The house owner deducted a lot of the deposit as there were repairing expenses. If the old roomie was there, it would have been simple and we could have divided the loses equally. Now it didnโ€™t make sense to a guy who came 1-2 months ago to lose his deposit for something which happened which was not in his tenure. And we tried to ask the old roomie to transfer his share of loss, but he started avoiding our calls.
