February 22, 2025 at 5:57 amI know that this is not really an important topic, but I would greatly appreciate it if you guys took a bit of your precious time and answered it. Thank You!!As I mentioned in the title, I am under 18, I currently own the license for MCWOG category.
I am a car enthusiast, and have wanted to own a car for longer than I can remember.
I saw a car on Olx which I can buy and maintain for very cheap, and thought I should go for it.I had enough money saved up from my pocket money that I could pay almost 60% of the cost of the car and decided to ask my parents for the rest.
They being the most practical parents I have ever known denied the request citing that I don’t need a car and that we already own a family car(in my father’s name), when I tried convincing them, my mom said that what’s the point of me buying a car if I can’t even legally own it. I know this was said so that I can stop trying to buy a car.But I really want to own a car and when I say own a car I mean completely own, from my name being on the deed to taking care of the car to getting it serviced. All of it.
I am not buying a car for practicality, I am buying it cause I have always loved them, I want to work on that car myself, change its oil, etc. And I will be needing it when I go off to my college in 6 months. So it’s not completely useless either. And hence the question, is there any way I can own a car if I am under 18?

February 22, 2025 at 6:08 amyou cannot , also you got 60% just to buy a 2nd hand car which will require hell lotta servicing and maintenance+ you don’t have no stable income source , your parents are being practical its better you try to maintain your family car or get a bike to get started that too when ur 18+-

February 22, 2025 at 7:03 amThe car si in good shape and won’t need any big chunk of money in repairs, while I was think of doing the basic servicing on my own.At the same time, my parents don’t trust me with fixing the family car and they shouldn’t cause I haven’t really worked on cars before. While I have been servicing my father bike for a while now, he doesn’t really like that fact because even though he doesn’t face any complications when I service the bike he thinks it’s a waste of time, so I only get to work on it if he somehow is busy enough to leave the bike without general servicing for 3-4 weeks.
I know I don’t a stable income, but I receive around 3-4k every 2-3 weeks, and I use only 40% of it and save the rest. That’s how I saved up the down-payment for the car. I was planning to get a part time job after I go to college so that I have more income to maintain the car.
