January 30, 2025 at 2:52 amContext: Arranged marriage setup. Speaking to this girl since the last few months. Our parents are yet to meet, so I don’t have her address. Are there any legal repercussions if I request a background check on her via a Private Investigator or Detective agency, knowing that I don’t have her consent? -

January 30, 2025 at 3:08 amYour can do private investigation it’s would be normal in your case as you can say your parents are doing background check to understand the other family. Many people do now a days lot of inquires it’s normal. Sometimes relatives also on their own start such background checks from sources.-

January 30, 2025 at 5:06 amPlease marry a girl if your parents know her parents. It will save you a lot of mental and legal hassles in future. I advise not to marry at all if your parents do not know her parents via mutual contacts.Big No No in current environment for NRIs

January 30, 2025 at 3:48 amAs long as you have no criminal intent, you should be fine. However, I have a word of caution on this “private investigation” business. This is not the developed west but a poor, underdeveloped India. There are plenty of shady people out there who will bring a lot of unnecessary trouble to you. A better approach would be for you to go through her social media accounts and meet her friends and family. Go out with her a few times, meet her at her workplace, and develop a bond with her. If you still feel like it, ask your extended family members (preferably women) to make a few enquiries near her residence.-

January 30, 2025 at 4:40 amI have no criminal intent, but am concerned whether this is illegal or not in India. It’s illegal in my country to do without someone’s consent.-

January 30, 2025 at 4:46 amIt really depends on people. Stalking, in strict legal terms, is not permissible, but in an AM setting, these things are naturally forgotten

January 30, 2025 at 6:53 amThere are some important things that canโt be discovered using PIs. What did the people you know find out using a PI?-

January 30, 2025 at 7:11 amThen the guy got lucky. Most women just stay in touch with their boyfriends or hookups just through chat and calls during the marriage phase. They carefully build and maintain a public persona from when the marriage discussions happen and till the wedding day. The only thing that PIs can reliably do is expose fake education and employment claims.-

January 30, 2025 at 10:12 amYes some level of luck is required.
Revelas a lot of things, depends what the client requirement is and what they are willing to spend.
But I definitely recommend it if it’s arranged marriage setup/online matramonial or similar.

January 30, 2025 at 5:17 amDo not marry as an NRI to a girl whom your parents do not have mutual contact with her parents.Heard a total of 24 cases of NRIs who are facing issues in 498a and DV bogus claims. Numbers are rising fast.
Do not go ahead at all if there is no mutual connection between families.

January 30, 2025 at 5:57 amThere will be no legal issues, just practical ones. PIs canโt find out much, no matter how great they are. The maximum they can do is verify education and employment details and addresses and family tree to a small extent. They can never find out details about her personal life or whatโs going on in the minds of her and her parents. -

January 30, 2025 at 11:57 amYou can ask a private detective to do a background check. I understand that this is a service that private eyes provide. Hopefully they will not cross boundaries which can break the law or invade the privacy of the individual. -

January 30, 2025 at 2:27 pmThe law does not talk about private detectives anywhere!!! The law gives a comprehensive guideline to government agencies like the Police, CBI, MI, IB, Income Tax, and Enforcement Directorate, etc., on how to conduct investigations. But, having said this, private detective agencies in India are duly registered by the government of India. In the registration application to the registrar of companies, private detective agencies mention that their scope of work shall be private investigations. In the memorandum of articles and memorandum of understanding (MOA and MOU) also private investigations agencies mention their work and profession. Detective agencies also open bank accounts and take credits from clients in these accounts. Private investigations companies also are registered with the service tax department and pay taxes such as GST, TDS, and income tax to the government. The tax invoices also clearly state that the taxes are being given for the work of private investigations and consultancy. Understandably, the government does not collect taxes on illegal services, which are contrary to the law. In the past courts have appreciated the documents, photographs, videos, and investigation reports submitted by private detective agencies in India.
Private detective agencies are not above the law and can be punished by the government if they work illegally. (What is illegality ? Oh I can explain that if you are keen)
So make it a point to check the authenticity and genuineness of the private detective agency you hire. Research their reputation through online reviews and testimonials. Check whether the private detective agency is registered with the government of India. Also always pay the amount in their official bank account. Confirm their adherence to legal and ethical standards by discussing their approach to investigations and requesting a written contract outlining services and fees. Ensure they maintain confidentiality and ask for a non-disclosure agreement to be signed. Ask for references from past clients and inquire about their experiences. Lastly, trust your instincts and choose an agency with transparent communication and a track record of successful, lawful investigations. See the website and check from last how many years the detective agency has been working. It is an added advantage if the detective agency has some reputed Ex police, Army, CBI, or IB officials on its payroll.
DDS Detective Agency is one such detective agency, which is a reputed detective agency. On its advisory rolls are retired High Court registrars and ex-d judges. It works within the ambit of law and never crosses the boundary of law.
Hope this helps.
