My friend (early 20s) is being harassed by her ex after their breakup. Calls and email spam from different IDs. He has also been waiting for her at metro stations because he knows her route. They didn’t meet because my friend is using a temporary route since the breakup. We have threatened him with a police complaint but he has become shameless. Going to the police is the safest option but we don’t want the hassle or get the girl’s parents involved.

So my question is, can we go to the Delhi police to informally complaint and not file a FIR? Can Delhi police call him and tell him to stop? Please share contacts if possible

          Not a lawyer

Yes, you can do this. Inform the police, they might give him a warning.

Yes, you can approach Delhi Police informally without immediately filing an FIR. The Delhi Police has Women Help Desks at most police stations where your friend can speak with officers and request informal intervention. They might call the ex and issue a warning.

Another option is the Delhi Police’s women helpline (1091) or their main helpline (112), where you can explain the situation and ask about informal complaint options.

The Delhi Police also has a mobile app called “Himmat Plus” designed specifically for women’s safety issues.

Thank you so much for the detailed response. I tried 1091 but they just asked if we wanna file an official complaint or not and then cut the call. Will look into other options

They must have informed you this but FIR and Complaint are different. So yes, you can file a complaint. Sorry, I didn’t mention NAL in my response.

They did not. They just asked if I wanna file an official complaint or not and then cut the call on their own. Tried multiple times
