VI stay in a housing society where I’ve been allotted a covered parking spot. I don’t own a vehicle, so the space is unused. A few weeks ago, I brought in a calf and plan to raise it there long-term for milk. The calf is clean, quiet, and well taken care of. It doesn’t obstruct or damage any common property.
Here’s the strange part this is a society where stray dogs and cats roam the compound freely, and residents actively feed them without objection. Yet somehow, me keeping a calf in my own space has triggered complaints and harassment from some society members.
If I’m not violating any law or creating a nuisance, can the society force me to remove the calf? Also, what can I do about members who are verbally harassing us for this?

Maybe get permission to get a seperate shed and milkman who’d milk it. I can see why some residents don’t want a cow on property, and i don’t think it’s all religious intolerance perse.
They’re not targeting you OP, just as you wouldn’t park a car in a shed, don’t park a calf in a parking space. It’s more of a how to handle shared spaces thing.

SNormally it comes from place of insecurity and popular opinion. See Cat and Dogs comes under popular opinion and symbol of animal loving and status symbol, while cow comes under dehati, hindutva etc

SYour pet should be in your house. The strays are strays, so no one owns them and no one can sure you if you “accidentally” feed them stuff that’ll kill them.
If OP wants a pet cow, it’s gonna be hard to do that in a parking spot. One: poop. Two: safety (of the cow).

DAre the strays friendly to your calf?
If there’s already friction with people in the housing society, what if someone feeds her poison or some harmful substance? People can target innocent animals out of spite. -

ABhai kaunsi society parking ko tabela banane degi. Plus government bhi kaise allow karegi tum toh purpose hi badal de rhe ho. Better to request some place in society or outside.
Because if you are selling it then it becomes a commercial area which parking can’t be.

VBy that logic, I should also have a problem with society members letting stray cats and dogs in parking space and turning the place into a kennel. Also, I never mentioned that I would be selling the milk it’s for self consumption, and any excess can be given to neighbors

SUnder existing laws, parking space will be for parking and not for animals.
Under existing laws, people won’t be allowed to keep dogs and cats in their parking spaces.
Under existing laws, if your calf is a stray calf roaming around your society like the dogs and cats, it will have legal protection (Real life protection is another matter).

SIf you do successfully get a calf and keep it on your parking space, there’s nothing stopping orie from poisoning it, the daver way there’s nothing stopping them from poisoning the strays. You keep pets inside the home for their own safety.

Dude wtf. There are laws laws passed by the Parliament of India against poisoning animals that aren’t considered vermin (and it’s not _your_ opinion about what that is). You can absolutely be sued for it and even the Supreme Court will punish you for it leaving you no room to appeal further.

If you apply the logic that “the animal is already dead” the same logic can be applied to you if someone were to do that to you, you’d already be gone. That doesn’t mean the deterrent doesn’t exist.

Yep. I was taught to avoid going to places where that’s a risk. I’ve definitely never slept on the road or in a parking space. Do people encourage you to do that? If yes, please get better company. I’m sure many people would be sad if you died.

I was thinking more along the lines or love for living things. Law is there to punish them *if there’s enough proof*. If there’s a camera, maybe.

MI cannot answer your question but I find this case very unique and interesting. It never occurred to me that you could do something like this, but when I think about it logically, I cannot find an issue with it! It’s your designated space, I am sure the cow is not bothering anyone, so I guess it’s shouldn’t be a problem. I guess the issue is coming more from the fact that society people are not acquinted with this and this is new to them too, but not sure what exactly the complaints are.
But on a separate note, OP, I wouldn’t personally suggest a covered parking spot for raising a cow. Cows need much more space and access to grass and greenery to be raised ethically. Hope you keep that in mind too and make sure the cow doesn’t feel tortured by the present living conditions.

Do you plan to tie a calf in the small space barely enough for a car?
Also, the calf won’t just grow up into a cow and start giving milk? It will have to be impregnated for it to start lactating.
I don’t know about the legal aspects but this is as harebrained as it can possibly get.

VI understand your concern, but I don’t keep her tied up 24/7. I take her for daily morning and evening walks, where she spends around 3–5 hours a day in the nearby open space.

PListen, I understand your logic of stray cats n dogs being let in but please don’t do this to get back at people.
If you really want to get a cow ask the society to allocate a separate space for you (probably in lieu of your covered parking).
Also, the milk idea is a bad one because it won’t just give milk but also have offsprings, requiring even more space.

SCar parking is a space alloted to park vehicle, not for animal husbandry., so the building society will naturally object to it. It would have been a mature move on your part if u had got permission from the society before procuring the animal. Cows, buffaloes, horses, camels etc are not considered a indoor pet.
Cow is a big animal that will defecate and urinate considerably more than your neighbours cat. Does the car parking space have proper facility to clear this sewage?
Do you think keeping this animal confined to a small parking space, getting it pregnant every year, and milking it as soon as it deliveres another calf is not a form of abuse?
In today’s India, apperantly the cow has more rights than humans. So I wouldn’t be surprised if u really pull this off. But I wouldn’t consider you a very wise man.

PYou are logically correct but practically not. People pay a premium to stay in a certain type of society. So l, seeing the “standard” lowered is not good for building image, tenancy, and resale values.
By the time you figure this out, make sure the calf is protected. Install a CCTV. People are evil, you don’t want them feeding it some poisonous stuff.

SLet’s be practical. Cats usually hide their poop and cover it. Dogs are mostly walked by their owners and relieve themselves in side areas. But cows, buffaloes, and goats defecate and urinate anywhere, even where they rest. That kind of upkeep is not something you can manage casually in a residential setup.
Right now, the calf may seem small and manageable. But once it grows up, who will clean up all the dung and pee? No matter how much you clean, the smell of cow dung and urine will always linger, especially in a covered parking space with limited air flow.
Also, if the goal is to get milk, a cow needs to be impregnated. That means she will have to give birth to a calf. So now you are not just keeping one animal but two or more in that same congested space.

CFlawed logic buddy! Stray cats and dogs are – stray, no rules governing them. Pets are kept inside the house and taken out for walks. Car parking – well, is meant to park cars. So yea, society can legally object to it. Take the calf home for a week and see if changes your perspective on things.
Also, I believe this is a shit post, but have nonetheless tried to give you some advice.
