As the title says, my employment contract mentions a notice period, however, usually when someone resigns at our firm, they just let them go without any notice period.

Is there any way to strong-arm the employer into either allowing me to serve the notice period or receive salary in lieu of the waived off notice period?

          NAL

You first need to check your company policies regarding leaving organisation. Only after that something can be commented

No. Because Notice Period is not legal. Its just trust based mutual agreement.

If you have a valid contract which says so, you can seek a specific relief from the court having jurisdiction over the subject matter. It wont be a worthwhile effort and will most likely take more time than 30 days which is usually the length of a notice period in most contracts.
