February 25, 2025 at 2:48 pmMy girlfriend (F19) is facing harassment from her college, particularly from a female professor (her class in charge). The issue began when she was selected for an internship through her college placement cell, which required her to work 10-hour shifts with only one day off for ₹5,000. However, she had another offer from Decathlon, where she would work 5-hour shifts, get two leaves per week, and earn ₹12,000.Naturally, she chose the Decathlon internship. But her class in charge kept pressuring her to take the ₹5,000 internship, claiming that withdrawing would ruin the college’s relations with the company. Even after multiple refusals, the professor stated that she would personally remove my girlfriend’s name from the placement cell.
Shortly after, my girlfriend received a notice from the college, where the professor accused her of low attendance and threatened to cancel her admission. However, her classmates know that the real reason behind this is her refusal to take the internship.
We want to know:
1. Can she take legal action against the college for harassment and unjust threats?
2. What legal options are available to challenge this notice?
3. Would filing a complaint with any educational authority help?
4. Would a lawyer’s notice to the college be effective in stopping this mistreatment? We would really appreciate any advice on how to proceed. Thank you!

February 25, 2025 at 2:59 pmGo after the individual, not the institute.Just a mere call from the lawyer could straighten up the professor.
Institute has lots of money and resource at it’s disposal, they would come after you.

February 25, 2025 at 3:03 pmAnswer you are looking for – Yes.Advice most people here will give you (including me) – talk to the dean/principal. Let them know about things. Spread the word. Gather support. Let everyone know what is happening. If you have a student union, talk to them and have them interfere. Educational institutions care about their reputation. Without it, they’re nothing.
If possible, try to solve things before sending a legal notice.

February 25, 2025 at 3:27 pmbro the university is extremely toxic. The student union is just for name sake, its extremely strict man, the university is even open on public holidays sometimes. and when she was in her college hostel the man in charge literally used to make them suffer for a nightout and wouldn’t allow them even in medical emergencies

February 25, 2025 at 3:12 pmHere the matter of fact is, she is accused of low attendance. So if the attendance is low on the rolls, then that doesnt become harassment.

February 25, 2025 at 5:19 pmNAL, as far as know college placement cell usually issue a brochure sort of before the placement season begins where they mentioned all of their rules and policy regarding placements. So are you sure she is abiding by the rules they have mentioned or not. If yes then take this matter to the dean or direct in form of written communication. -
