Can outstanding loan of your partner(F) can be put on the other partner (M)

  Hey, I wanted to know, if someone’s girlfriend have a loan debt and then they got married, can the bank come after the husband and or will the husband have to bear the loan expenses if the wife refuses to pay to bank?

  As far I know the husband is not obligated to pay off the wife’s loan, unless he cosigned the loan or as agreed to be responsible for it.

  No but if they have joint assets then the share of the asset can be claimed.

  The wife can file for divorce, claim Alimony from husband and clear off her loan. It is a very easy process in our country !!

    Could be. It happened to a friend of mine. He found out that his girlfriend have a few lakhs of loan debt which she already defaulted. And they are soon to get married.

  The bank is not going to come after the husband for the loans of the wife unless the husband has co-signed or is a personal guarantor, they have a joint account which is tied to the loan or the wife dies without repaying. But it is possible for the wife to come after the husband for her loans. Make sure such debts are disclosed before marriage.
