My sister has pending SBI credit card dues after losing her job. Recovery agents have now started calling me and other family members even though we are not guarantors or linked to the card in any way.

Yesterday one of the agents called me and said things like:

        * “loan lene ki aukaat nahi hai toh liya kyu tha”
        * “yeh apne gharwalon ko maar dega taaki isko paise na dene pde ”

The same number had different names on call, Truecaller and WhatsApp Business. I also have call recordings and screenshots.

        Questions:

        * Is this against RBI recovery guidelines?
        * Should I first complain to SBI nodal officer or directly to RBI Ombudsman?
        * Is this enough for a police complaint?
        * Has anyone here dealt with something similar?

          hi advocate this side,

Yes, this is against RBI recovery guidelines. Recovery agents cannot harass or threaten family members. First complain to State Bank of India nodal officer with recordings and screenshots. If no action, escalate to RBI Ombudsman. You can also file police complaint for threats and harassment. Keep all evidence safely.

this kind of behaviour from recovery agents usually crosses the line very quickly once they start dragging unrelated family members into it and using abusive language the part that tends to matter most here is that you already have recordings and screenshots because without those these calls often get denied later also the different names across caller apps makes the whole thing look even more questionable have they only been calling or have they also started messaging relatives or threatening home visits too
