CCTV in school toilet, is this even legal?

recently went to Central Academy for my CBSE Class 12 board exam, and I was shocked to see CCTV cameras installed inside the toilets. This feels like a serious invasion of privacy, and as far as I know, installing cameras in washrooms is completely illegal in India.

Who even allows this? Are there any laws against it? What action can be taken? Should I report this to CBSE or any higher authority?

If anyone has faced a similar issue, please share your experience.

Yes it is illegal . Probably they set it up for anti cheating measures or misuse or breaking of toilets but damn it’s too much . You can get someone to go talk to the authorities there . If they listen good if they don’t you’ll have to probably go to higher ups like police or CBSE .

Yes but aren’t they supposed to appoint a person outside the toilet in this scenario rather than installing cameras , afterall I am not the regular student of that school I just got the centre there

They don’t even require a person out there as everything is already timed in classroom itself by the invigilator . For bathroom each student is required to get 2 breaks of 5 mins each . The school might have set up its own rules .

it was my last paper of english yesterday and i noticed for the first time that there was a camera directly pointed at the toilets

Yes I see the same thing and it was a highly quality CCTV which records videos in 1080P btw are you from Central academy?

Depends on what is the definition of toilet area. Certainly stalls and urinals are off limit. However any area that’s for washing just hands or is just the door to corridor that leads to toilet area etc. No.

It was directly pointing towards the toilet area and was at the height so everything could be clearly seen

Our school had cctvs in the toilet (both men and women) …..but to the school’s defense student were having sax in the toilet which was true
