I was diagnosed with OCD at the age of 16, I am 28 now. It’s been an year since I took any medication, I was taking therapy till 2 months ago but I’m okay now.

Ditto reps told me that I am only eligible for Care Freedom insurance which sucks, bad reviews, lots of restrictions etc. So, I want to know if I should buy another health insurance and not disclose my ocd history to them. Would they be able to get my history from the hospitals I visited earlier?

A friend told me that they can’t get that history and I can get away with it if no medical paper in the future mentions that I had OCD before getting the policy.

I have visited 2 government and one private hospital over the span of 10 years. I know it’s unethical but I don’t see any other option?

Wait! There’s actually medicine for OCD? I thought I’d be stuck with my irrational thoughts forever.

Mostly SSRIs (Anti-depressants) but they didn’t help me a lot. They do help some people. What helped me the most was exposure and response therapy.

There are but you need to see a psychiatrist and get an official diagnosis to get a prescription. You will not get those medicines without them. Pharmacies can refuse you since they can be addictive

Pretty standard symptoms revolving around obsessions and things you do to resolve them. Quick google search would be more helpful than me explaining my particular case…

When I walked out from washroom (Indian style) I wash my hands (from nails to elbow) and same with feet (toe to knee).

If I go to pee only then I simple wash my hands and my feet (toe to knee).

If someone touch my phone i literally wash it gently. because of this my phone display has spots under the screen. Even it get damaged and I bought new phone but I don’t use it very much.

I wash my hand before using the phone and after use i turn on airplane mode and put in my bag.

If I touch anything and before me someone touched that thing already i again wash my hands.

If I handshake with someone when I’m at home(mostly Neighbours) I again wash my hands.

I wash my bike’s handals, clutch, front brake, seat, keys everytime, when I went outside.

When my mother doing cleaning, if my feet touches the broom(jhaarhu), then i again wash my feet.
Same with when she do mopping.

I never walk in my house without wearing flip flops (Chappal).

I don’t touch any animal. If I touch i again wash my hands with soap.

If a lizard walked in front of me on some place then I only walk on that place when that place is washed minimum 10 times with soap or detergent or acid or something like that. Same with rats and other animals (cats, dogs, etc no exceptions).

I saw a lizard walked on chakla (used to make roti), and after that day I never eat roti in my house till now. I only eat rice and sabji. If needed then I ordered from restaurant.

These days they have ABHA id to which all your medical details are tagged. Ensure your records are not tagged .

It is difficult for insurer to get old records from hospitals you have visited .Typically during a hospitalization doctors take detailed history of all your past diseases. Patients or their relatives tend to mention it and Dr adds to case notes. Insurer sees the notes, denies the claim and cancels the policy. All premiums paid are wasted.
But for something like ocd less chances of the issue coming out if you are careful. If it is a physical ailment or surgery Dr. can find it on their own by clinical examination.ย

Now you are not taking medicines. But if you again have to start it then more chances of detection, as things are getting linked to ABHA id slowly.ย

Even moratorium clause may not help as they may claim fraud.ย

So it is always a risk even after several years if you lie about your PEDs. You are the best judge of risk- reward equation.ย

Understood, thank you for the detailed instructions. I can take care of doctors not mentioning it on future slips but I’ll have to confirm about the ABHA ID.

Most health insurers won’t cover OCD or any mental issues / disorders even as a part of corporate health policies

I assume you are looking for cover for physical health disorders, in that case it is still better to disclose. Insurers are notorious for not paying even genuine claims, so don’t give them a chance to deny your claim when you most need it.

I don’t need coverage for the OCD. My issue is that I am being denied the policy altogether because of the OCD. I’d be happy to take the policy even if they don’t cover OCD specifically.

                                Hi,

I specialise in Health insurance. I don’t know why Ditto says you can’t get insurance for OCD. OCD is not something insurance companies would reject just because you got OCD. I am more than happy to help you out get an insurance if what you say is just an OCD, it should be no issue.

PS: I am an Insurance Agent specialising in Health.

Edit: Yes, you can get another insurance through porting.
