UMy sister was applying for passport from her current rental address in Tamil Nadu where she has been staying for 2 years. Prior to that she was staying in permanent address in hometown in Kerala. When police came for verification, they mentioned why did we apply from this address as we only have been here for two years. We can only apply if we are here for 5 years. He said he will mostly reject the application and asked us to apply from hometown address. Likewise when we asked Kerala Police on applying from the permanent address, they said we should apply from current address only as we residing in Tamil Nadu. Can someone guide on what can be done here (Bribe not an issue as policeman rejected from taking)

RPassport has to be applied from current address even if it’s just 1 day of residence there and you need to provided previous year address proof also if it’s current residence is less than 2 years. Constable is just being a typical indian gobermint officer.
To be honest it’s always best to apply from a permanent address as this will be on most of docs and be present when police visits. this avoids just lot of hassles.
Bribe is the issue you just need to figure out.

UWe even reached out to other officers in the station and they are also saying the same narrative. How can we give passport approvals to outsiders who have not stayed here properly. Why are you not applying in your permanent address as aadhar is based there. We have to talk to superiors and then decide ☹️

RTrust me this is all bullshit. i’m 100% sure as i myself have gone through all the possible drama and trauma. Just boost the police officers ego that saar pls guide me saar, my teacher told me police has the power sir, please sir I trust you sir…
well here are two possibilities. you keep quiet and after 2-3 months police sends adverse report to RPO and you get a letter from RPO that your passport application is rejected due to ‘Adverse police report’ and you are supposed to book appointment at RPO and go with all document to explain there. There you can explain your situation and they may guide you there by reinitiating the police verification 2) asking you to cancel the application and reapply at permanent address.
