Cyber cell put my friends money on hold!!

He received the money from betting site and the exact same amount was put on hold by the bank. Reason mentioned by the bank was cyber cell fraud. Also the amount which he transferred to other accounts after receiving the amount from betting site the people he sent money their amount also got deducted.
What should he do now? Bank gave the details about the transaction the complaint was filled in Rajkot and the lawyer asked for 4000rs to cancel out the legal actions. What should I do ?

A lot of friends getting trouble on Reddit, these days.
There is not much you can do, since this is a cybercrime case. The person who sent you the money was probably a scamster if the money is not too much forget about it and move on

The amount was 7000 he can bare that but do we have to report some fraud or something? Will there be any legal actions taken against him as he didn’t lodged a complaint

Nope but for your peace of mind you can try contacting the IO(WhatsApp him rather than visiting the police station) , I can’t describe the experience but it will be a ride IFYKYK

Did your bank not give you information about which state police and station it was filed from?
Contact them

Nooo. But my friend to whom I sent money he received the details about the police station along with phone number

Yeah yours was probably layer 2 so they are charging 7k which your friend sent

Probably dispute it if you wanna go through it, I am not sure how successful it will be since you are layer 2. Your friend who sent you the money has probably all of his marked lien as well or acct has been frozen

Same happened to me,my 10k is on hold and the message states:-

Dear Sir/ Madam, Status of your Complaint Acknowledgement No. 21911240*****, dated 11/11/2024, reported on Cyber Crime portal is amount of Rs. 1256 has been Put on Hold. Kindly contact your respective Police Station.
Regards,
National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal.

Lawyer here.

First, ask your lawyer to coordinate with the Police. He will call/physically visit the specific cyber cell and will probably be able to get your money back without paying anything to the police.
