I have a foldable electric cycle(excluding battery) which I had gone and booked in Nizamuddin railway station RMS cargo to be sent to kerala which was agreed by the carrier guy there in the RMS section and they had packed it infront of me and had charged 2.5k with a receipt(from the cargo company, not railways). He had written the train number and destination on the receipt and the package.

Day 0: I flew from Delhi to Kerala post that, on the same day. He had mentioned to me that it will be put into the train the next day.

Day 1:Now, today was Eid, and he told me there were no staff that day so he’ll ship it the next day, which I agreed.

Day 2: he said he’ll share the details as soon as it’s shipped but he never did.

Day 3: he says you can’t take the particular station I wanted because train doesn’t stop 5 mins(it says so in the Indian rail website that you can’t drop the parcel with shorter duration than 5 mins-which made sense), hence he suggested to change it to a different, bigger station, which I agreed.

Day 4: he says he will ship it today to the bigger station and send the receipt, but nothing is received.

Day 5: Called him up multiple times, he’s saying he’s gonna share the receipt in a few mins every time I call him. We argued a bit about it, but he says I need to wait and he will call me, but he never did yet.

Also, he had mentioned on day 0 that I will get text messages from RMS when the package is loaded and when it is arrived, but I haven’t received any texts.

I’m starting to feel worried if I got conned here. What do I do? I am not in Delhi anymore that I can go and check this? The cycle is expensive too.

You are likely scammed. You may not get cycle back.

should have used railway transfer. You used private courier which has nothing to do with railway.

Now register complaint on NCH app and PG portal.

          Try to file FIR.

When I had gone to ship the cycle to the RMS section, this guy was sitting right inside railway compound, there were many other bikes packed and kept around to be shipped, there were other cargo being handled there, he had 3-4 people who were doing all the packing and moving around, there was even an RPF booth with a cop standing there and overseeing movement of things. He gave a receipt with phone number and he still answers my phone. I really couldn’t see any red flags here.

when you ship your bike/cycle, it needs to be packed with sacks. Those are agents sitting inside station who pack by charging people money.

You need to pay money to the to train counter and take official receipt from Indian railways. Then handover your bike/cycle to railway authorities. There is guy sitting. Cost for parcel depends on how much you quote price of cycle. Because if they lose your cycle, they will pay reimbursement money to you.

RPF /cop guy is for checking. He won’t let anyone take stuff outside area without valid receipt.

Those were likely agents who you dealt with

The entire parcel office service is totally outsourced. Only the parcel officer is a railway employee. You should have taken the Way bill from the Parcel office issued by IR… Maybe you were not aware… What is the name of the courier company?

Outsourced is what I thought too. Before going, I had tried reaching out to railways helpline to understand the procedure for this, but they told me to visit the RMS section and get the information from there regarding this. The company is National Speed cargo and movers. Head office 18/13, 3rd floor, Geeta Colony as per receipt.

The chances of getting your cycle back are slim. For now, you should file a complaint at your local police station.

Update: Dad reached out to a friend in Senior post in Delhi Police who sent a constable to enquire. That courier guy suddenly became polite and got the cycle booked in half a day, and got the railway receipt and other tracking details! I guess this courier asshole was trying to squeeze more money from me and hence delaying it. Upon checking the receipt, I saw he charged me 1k more than the actual parcel cost, which I guess is the Delhi way.
But imagine someone not having this help, I’m sure he’d have looted so many people like that!
