BM (36) married for 13 years with 2 kids (aged 12 and 6). Wife (35) belongs to a family slightly lower financial status than me. I did not ask for Dowry or any kind of gifts. Marriage expense was borne equally (temple wedding from her side), reception from my end. My wife being the only daughter, stayed with her parents after marriage and I was okay with it. I used to work away from home in our initial years of marriage and used to stay with her and in laws during my holidays. I used to give my entire salary to my wife till last year. We purchased a house in 2022. I contributed half through a bank loan, another 30 percent was from gold which I had purchased for her over the years (I do not have exact idea how much grams have I got her), 10 percent from my personal savings and remaining 10 percent was funded by my in-laws by selling their own house. The plan was to stay with us in the new home. While registering, my wife convinced me to register the house in her mother’s name citing they will feel insecure to live in son-in-law’s house.I agreed.
A year and half later, they brought a plot of land and started building a home in their hometown. I asked where the funds came from, my wife said her mother has enough funds. I started to smell something was fishy, I asked what they did with my salary which I remitted home all these years. They felt offended I asked and isolated me, started accusing me of adultery with a girl in my friend circle and stopped my kids from being in touch with me.
I started send home a reasonable amount required by them to live and started saving the rest. I tried to call my kids mutiple times, she will not attend the call. Once, my son told me they do not need my interference in their lives.
I travelled back to India after a year and half of this isolation and filed for divorce a couple of days ago. When I went to meet the kids, my wife verbally abused me and accused me of adultery in front of all the neighbours. My sons did not even greet me or talk to me. The elder one was so harsh and talking just like their mother.I am totally in a blank space and don’t know how to handle this legally.

Vngl OP, they showed every possible red flags from start. Try re-connecting with your kids, spend time with them (if they agree). Your wife can’t stop you from that.

PA cousin of mine. I do not have reddit of my own. I asked to post it on my behalf, she gave the credentials and told to pursue the comments on my own for any advices.

VShould’ve mentioned that in the post, redditors have the habbit to watch the post histories after getting hundreds of fake stories everyday.

AFor 13 years of your marriage was it a ldr? Why you never thought of living with your family? Like it seems too weird. Also how was your relationship with your wife, sons? How often you met them or spoke to them?

PYes it was LDR. I am an expat working abroad and my wife and kids are back home.
I usually go home once or twice a year since 2018. Before that, I was working in various places in India. I had an option to bring them to stay with me, however she refused citing her parents are alone back home.
I agreed to her wish. I used to visit them once every 3-5 months.
I have not spoken to my kids since Feb 2024. She is refusing to let them speak to me. Ever since I confronted about funds for new home.
