FWhenever I’m overcharged like this, I simply return the bottle and walk away. I’ve heard that shopkeepers have little to no margin on cold drinks but that’s not my problem to solve.

ANo it does not. MRP is for the product landed at the shopkeeper’s door. Shopkeepers have all the right to charge for the service they are providing to refrigerate that drink. That charge can be zero. Or 100. Never see assholes complaining at restaurants selling water bottles for 100 bucks. These are the same assholes who would pay service charges to nirmala tai for even using public toilets. But god forbid whop keeper asks for a charge, all hell breaks lose

RThen what should we do? Shopkeeper’s also pay rent on the shop, employ their employees, have lights on, do we pay for everything OVER MRP? No. IT IS THE COST OF DOING BUSINESS. If they are bad businessmen they can close their shop.
LAW SAYS YOU CANNOT CHARGE MORE THAN MRP FOR A PRODUCT.

AYour right is to buy the MRP bottle as it came out of the manufacturer. Shopkeepers are entitled to charge for the service they are providing.

RAre you an idiot? Shopkeepers earn some commission on every product. A company sends shopkeeper products knowing that they will be complying with the laws. If the shopkeeper can’t make better business decisions, he should renegotiate the margins with the company. If he can’t he can choose to not have a refrigerator. EVERY PLATFORM THAT SELLS ANYTHING, has to comply with MRP. No shopkeeper is ABOVE LAW.

AAmritsar – freezing charge
Jammu – literally everything charge,Rs8 for MRP 5 Lays, even extra for Rs1 chewing gum (except for those few govt. Shops which are very few and have very much limited products)-

AOnly for products which required a cooling system, like chocolate/drinks etc, they gave 2 options – either 20Rs for hot Or 25 for chilled bottle. And it’s pretty obvious that a cold drink has to served chilled

DOne shopkeeper tried this with me 10 years back. I replied, does company give you free fridge so you can charge extra for cold drinks. Then I said I am not going to buy any product from you from now on and walked away.
Shopkeeper called me a couple of times while I was walking away. Didn’t look back. Never bought anything from his shop.

PThere is a shop near my house which do this so i told him this is wrong and explained selling anything above mrp is illegal but side me ek aunty jo uska side lene lagi aur boli freezing a charge to legaga hi.I gave that price and go away
I was not angry at shopkeeper who is doing this I was angry at that aunty jisko customer right pata hai nahi aur dusro ko Gyan dene bich me aa gayiAasi chutiya log hai 🤧 to ye scam to hoga hi i never colddrink from that shop again

PThis is not a new thing. I have always paid as per MRP whenever they ask for a cooling charge.
Dont ask the cost just see the mrp scan the qr code n pay and dont turn around.Next time ask them to sell it without being cold let’s see if people buy it. Also they say they have to buy a fridge for it, tell me then both cocacola and Pepsi provide you with the fridge at no cost.
It’s part of the electricity bill, he basically wants people to fund the electricity bill. Whats next? Fund his children’s school fee.

PLong ago like 20 years ago they used to do such things at my town. 2 rupees extra for chilled items. After that I think there were several complains by the people and also wide coverage of it in the newspaper and such charges stopped. Also then Big bazaar came up so I guess they didn’t have a choice.
