QWe hired a photographer in Pune. Our agreed terms were to pay in 50% in advance and remaining in instalments. The final instalment was to be done when we receive the complete data. Since the beginning, we noticed his behaviour was indifferent but since we had already booked him and were busy with the wedding preparations, we decided to continue with him. After the wedding, we had been continuously chasing him to get our photos and videos. Every time he asked for more money to release the data. We complied hoping to finally receive the complete set of photos and videos. However, each time we received the files, they were incomplete and had some missing content. When it came time for the final payment, he insisted on half of the remaining balance, assuring us that this time he would provide all the content. We made the payment in good faith, but after that, his attitude changed. He became increasingly disrespectful. In frustration, I threatened him with legal action to recover what we were owed, but that made his behaviour more erratic. This kind of behavior is unacceptable, and I want to take action to ensure he is held accountable. What legal steps can I take to make sure he faces consequences for his actions and doesn’t continue to scam others?

IDid you sign a MOU before giving him the advance? If yes i think you can take legal action. If no, do you have any written proof like chats or anything of your original agreement? You might want to compile them and show all this to a lawyer who can then take further steps. Also name and shame such people soo others wont be scammed.

CThese issues can only be resolved amicably. Going the legal way, the photographer would first delete all the wedding content and would blame it on. Corrupt memory card/HDD. You would be only be eligible for compensation and your once in a lifetime photos will only be available from your relatives phone camera(s)

EBringing a cop to his studio would work better than a legal notice.
Truth is that he is busy with other assignments/projects as he received more than half money from you. Go to the nearest police station to his studio and file a formal complaint to get all your money back. These people don’t listen to those who speaks softly to them, you have to be firm and threaten him with legal actions.
I hope he must have provided you the soft copies of your wedding pics and videos, bcz if not then he might delete them. The first thing you should be doing now is to receive soft copies of all pics and videos. Once you receive it then bring cops lawyers into the scene.
I also faced a similar situation with the photographer, he kept delaying every time we asked him to share pics. We live in Delhi while the marriage was in our hometown which is 800kms away, that is why he kept delaying thinking we won’t travel 800 kms to threaten him.
