We live in a Delhi government allotted society in Delhi, in a Type 5 duplex quarter (father is a Class 1 officer, lecturer, Dept of Training and Technical Education).
A girl living in the Type 1 quarters (neighbor) today morning (~9:30 AM) was caught plucking mangoes from a tree we had planted and cared for in our garden, joined to our house, fenced and gate locked. My mother (50) asked her not to pluck, but the girl became abusive and aggressive. On confrontation, she pushed and scratched my mother.

Later, me (F23), my sister (F19), and our maid tried to speak to her. Instead of resolving, she provoked and rage baited us. Me being totally unaccustomed to such situations, took the bait, got riled up. Physical confrontation occurred when I tried to snatch her phone that she was holding in front of us pretending to call her backups. Big mistake on my part. She was much stronger and physically hurt us β€” my sister’s finger is broken. We then withdrew immediately.

Around 11:30 AM, the girl came to our home with two tall male accomplices (also supposedly in the police). They held off my father (56) and the girl physically assaulted me, my sister, my mother, and our maid inside our home. We have parts of this commotion recorded.

Under pressure and fear, my mother apologized to de-escalate. But around 12:30 PM, they returned again with her brother, another female “police worker” friend, and a neighbor. They banged our door, kicked it, threatened to break it down, and issued serious threats of physical harm.

We are scared for our safety. We fear they may harm us again or target my parents. My sister and I especially are feeling very unsafe. I don’t stereotype, neither had i ever faced this kind of violence before, but to specify, they were haryanvi, seemingly jat/gujjar.

We are scared of retaliation if we go to police, but we want to take legal action.

Lawyer here. First step for you would be to either file a written complaint or go in person and narrate your incident to the police officers. Although if you say that the perpetrators might themselves be in the police, you could get drafted a well versed complaint by someone experienced (so they could include all the major ingredients of cognizable offences made out). A written complaint is preferred because it will be a part of record. However if you do not prefer this way, chances are that they will have an upper hand over you, simply because of their quick action.
