February 28, 2025 at 12:33 pmI am 28 years old, and yesterday, I discovered that my bank account had been frozen. Shortly after, a police officer called, informing me that my mother (divorced), elder brother (single), and paternal grandmother had filed an FIR against me. However, they didnβt clearly state the reason for the complaint.**Background:**
β’ My **Nanaji (maternal grandfather)** passed away in 2018. He had designated me as the **second account holder** for a certain amount of money. The remaining accounts were jointly held by my mother and nani (maternal grandmother).
β’ I had been **no-contact with my family for over a month** because I want to marry my partner of 8 years, but my mother and brother disapprove.
β’ My **Nanaji left me the money** as recognition for the care I provided him during his 3-year battle with cancer.
β’ After his passing, I **submitted his death certificate to the bank**, making me the **sole owner of the accounts** in question. This was done years back.
**My concern:**
Given the situation, does my family have a **strong legal case** to claim the money? Can they successfully take it away from me?

February 28, 2025 at 3:07 pmLawyer here No they have. I legal case over your money. Moreover the bank has no legal right to freeze your a/c over an FIR. because the police cannot ask them to do that only a court can. So where ever you are immediately seek out a High court lawyer and file a case to quash the FIR and another to unfreeze the a/c immediately. Once unfrozen change your dumbass banker. The unfreezimg of your account should be an easy part the FIR might take some time to be quashed -

February 28, 2025 at 4:03 pmI recently got to know that if you’re a nominee, you are only a trustee of the amount that is in the account and you have the authority to distribute the money in the desired/equal parts to all dependents. -
