February 6, 2025 at 10:45 amHi all,My friend F in 20s resides in a rented apartment in Haridwar with her siblings. A family that stays on the ground floor make a mess on the terrace near the water storage. She recently got it cleaned but they did it again which resulted in a dispute with the lady.
She called her husband who came along with some men and bested the friend and her brother black and blue. She has wounds on her face she palms. They also went to the police station for some reason, we don’t know on what cause. Maybe someone called the police but we don’t know yet. From the information i have so far, police arrived at the scene and she was asked if she wants to accompany them to the station if she’d like to file a report which she didn’t do at that point.
For her safety we’ve asked them to move to dehradun for a while. We tried calling the women’s helpline number in Dehradun but no one picked.
Could you please suggest what legal recourse we should take here?

February 6, 2025 at 11:03 amI’m not a lawyer, but I think it can be done. There are Zero FIRs that can be filed out of jurisdiction too.-

February 6, 2025 at 1:36 pmWe have to fight for justice. But most people want others to fight for them and give solution. You have to fight and file an fir and so on and move to courts and everywhere and not give up. But people don’t want that. -

February 6, 2025 at 1:39 pmIt has been filed now and no one said we don’t want to file an FIR.It is already explained above that we had decided to move her to a different city for security. And the question is around how to manage this legally if one is in a different city than place of crime.

February 6, 2025 at 2:12 pmFile a Zero FIR at your local police station. Better yet, hire an advocate and have him approach the police station. Do this as early as possible.-

February 6, 2025 at 3:14 pmThat’s good to hear. Pls follow up and ensure that they are criminally charged (assault). This ensures that they face consequences!-

February 6, 2025 at 3:47 pmYes. Do we need to loop in a lawyer or will the police/state take care of that?-

February 6, 2025 at 4:14 pmBetter to involve an advocate from the beginning itself. If you have a strong case (with evidence), the other party will definitely come to you for negotiating.Make it VERY expensive for them. (This is where you need your advocate’s help)

February 6, 2025 at 4:45 pmThere’s no compromise without monetary compensation. Don’t settle it without getting any money prior!
