UMy friend tried to upgrade their Fi Money account to a salary account using some tricks easily available on the internet, and it worked for them.
Last week, they tried to redeem their Fi coins for a gift voucher—on a ₹1000 gift card, they were getting some cashback (around ₹150-200) for approximately 9,000 coins worth 190-200 inr they had accumulated. However, the transaction got canceled due to a technical issue on Fi’s side, and the coins were deducted as well.
Today, they raised a complaint regarding this issue.
In the evening, they got a call from Fi’s investigation team, and the person on the call was incredibly rude, treating them as if they were Vijay Mallya. The investigator asked what purpose they were using their account for, to which my friend replied it was for normal day-to-day transactions.
The investigator then asked if they were an employee of the company they mentioned during the upgrade. My friend said yes and asked why they were being questioned about this. The investigator said they believed my friend wasn’t an employee of the company and accused them of “rewards abuse.”
My friend responded by saying they hadn’t done any rewards abuse and pointed out that it was Fi’s responsibility to verify employee status at the time of the upgrade. Frustrated, my friend told them to revoke the salary account status and close the account immediately.
After the call, my friend submitted an account closure request, which is now showing a 21-day processing time.
For context, my friend had earned a small amount of cashback and accumulated coins redeemable for rewards. The upgrade was just a month ago. They know these are relatively small amounts but feel it’s easy to earn reward points by using the account daily. They didn’t expect Fi to make such a big deal about this.
