UHello friends, need a little help, Me and my friend traveled to matheran 2 years back and we stayed at a place called alexander heritage and rainforest. We had found the place on Instagram we decided to go for it. We had booked a camping tent, might be off season so there weren’t many people there, just me and my friend and 1 more group. Since we had taken a camp we had requested the staff for hot water, one of the staff members offered us a washroom in one of the room which had showered and we agreed. When my friend went to shower, I was waiting in the lawn area for her. The guy with a smile on his face took a ladder and went behind the room, I followed him to find out that he was recording my friend through the window. When confronted he denied and immediately deleted the video, smiling infront of me, the staff at that time said that they were firing him but I guess he has been taken back. It is shameful that young staff like there was, can’t seem to understand that this could happen to their daughter, sister, mother or girlfriend. I wish we had taken some extreme measures at that time, to be honest couldn’t really process it. It’s disheartening that even after years, the thought still haunts us, can’t travel anywhere in peace. Please write review about them on Google so that others can be aware about this as well, and what are the steps which we can take now? I know it’s too late but still.

UFirst, this sounds horrid. I’m so sorry that you and your friend had to go through this.
From your description, that imagined-mental-image of the smiling guy deleting the video is gonna stick in my head. Can’t imagine how tough it is for both of you.
Hope you find ways and means to heal further.
IANAL but IIRC cases have a limitation of two years from the date of the incident.
I hope you have pursued all non-legal actions possible:
– Write emails to their management, etc
– Leave reviews on all platforms they exist: Google Maps, TripAdvisor, etc
– Tweet, post on Facebook and Instagram for word of mouth reachLegally, even if the time period has not run out, you may not be able to get a case to stick against them without clear cut evidence, but you can try to make life difficult for them or at the very least, scare them by sending a simple legal notice, I’m guessing.
But also, a word of caution: if the place is run by a politician or someone else with power, and they decide to come after you, our system is designed to give them enough weapons to make your life a living hell. Sadly.
Just be sure of what you want, what you can do, and proceed.

UThank you for the advice, unfortunately the incident is from more than 2 years ago. I have left a review at Google, the management was well informed about this but they still re-hired the person. It just feels really weird, my friend was 17 at that time. We don’t really have any evidence as such, like a recording or something of the time, were too small to understand what was happening. Don’t really know what the next step should be.

I doubt there’s much you could do.
Just make sure you’re there for your friend, and for yourself too – find ways and means to heal from this.
Stop blaming yourself also: “we were young” “we didn’t know what to do”.
The responsibility for this horrid incident lies solely with that employee.
Make sure your friend knows that as well.
Live life happily.

UIs there anything you think before putting a word out? Like anything at all? I pray for you, that firstly you never go through something like this, secondly, if you ever do, no stupid person comes and says that it’s a spam post even after replying to 50 people and explaining why the post was made. Learn to research and understand before you speak.
If you genuinely were concerned about anything whatsoever, you would’ve asked me, why, what, who etc. But no, you just came and blatantly declared it spam. Hats off to you.-
Sthere are many red flags.
first, the post was made after similar post in r/Goa
second, you are not asking for legal advice just straightaway asking to rate the google property.
third, the post itself talks about an incident so old that nobody can check if it actually happened.
fourth, no iota of specific details given like date of travel and stay etc.my empathy is with you in case of genuine incident, but many thugs and scammers road around especially on a anonymous forum like reddit.

UI’ve mentioned previously on other subreddits as well that after seeing the r/goa post is when we got the courage to speak up. I asked what are the next steps that can be taken( didn’t know I had to specify legal) Yes so? The incident is old, mentioned that we were traumatized. Stay was in a tent, I can’t reveal the date of travel for our own safety, you can reach out personally if you’d like to know more.
I understand where you are coming from, but this is not a scam or competitor post. We genuinely faced this and till this day can’t travel in peace. We can book anything but 5 stars properties because of the fear.

UIs your friend a lady?
If yes, this is a clear cut offence of S. 77 of BNS i.e. Voyeurism. An FIR can be filed for this. There is no limitation period in Criminal Cases.If not, the person could be held liable under S. 66E of IT Act for capturing images of private area of a person.

UWell what do you guys want ?
That the guy should go behind bars ? The place should shut down? The management sends you and friend a sorry note?-
UTo be honest, we don’t know, however, all these things should’ve happened. As of now, we’re trying to spread awareness about the place so that people know what’s happening there. The place has 4.3 stars on Google, just want people to know it’s not what it seems to be

UWell if good reviews are the concern, that can be taken care virtually by you and your peers. Post all the evidence and/or response by the management on google review. However, if you want to get personal then contact a lawyer, send legal notice and file a case, which in your case is not recommended at your age with no evidence.
Also, if getting involved personally it would raise a question of getting a room being a minor with another minor without a guardian. Also if you are of opposite sex and/or major then it’s an another barricade to overcome. Can hurt both the parties equally.
I agree with people who have already replied to this thread. Take a life lesson and thank god for being there at right place at right time to protect your friend and move on.

UI’m not sure exactly how I can prove this, I do have a video somewhere in my cloud storage of the stairs that led up till the windows, which he climbed to take the video. I’ll have to search for that. However, I genuinely do not have any gain from doing this whatsoever, if you see my account, this is the first post I’ve made ever, only because I saw someone going through something similar in Goa, they posted about it here and on r/goa. I do not own a hotel business, nor am I a rival or anything like that. I wish we were mature enough to understand the situation and gather more evidence at the time but the best we could do was take the phone, delete the video, yell, shout and scream. It was at 12am so basically couldn’t do anything much. You can connect with me personally, I can assure you this is not fake. Wouldn’t lie about anything like this ever.
