I don’t know if this is the right forum to ask this, if not please let me know.

Over the past six months, I have purchased a total of 25 grams of gold coins as a wedding gift for my brother, with the following denominations:
        • 10 grams × 1
        • 5 grams × 2
        • 1 gram × 5

I plan to carry these coins with me on a flight from Chandigarh to Bangalore.

Am I legally allowed to take them on the plane?

I am a 35-year-old male, traveling alone (my wife is not accompanying me). I have purchase receipts for 15 grams of gold but seem to have misplaced the receipt for the remaining 10 grams.

A friend of mine carried 10 grams last year and was stopped at security, but after verification, he was allowed to proceed.

If carrying 25 grams is not permitted, what is the maximum amount I can take with me?

For a domestic flight, there should be no issue in carrying gold as long as you have all the bills etc. for the gold.

What is illegal is smuggling gold into or outside India.

Do you know how it is being handled for gold jewelry? We have many tourists from India here, and some tend to wear quite thick gold chains – do they have to fulfill some customs declaration everytime they leave the country? Then another one when they come back? Seems… impractical.

Domestic flight no issues at all . I have travelled with wife’s gold with rupees 7  lakhs . Security officer just wanted me to show to her . And didn’t ask any further questions

                You would need receipts

Same situation happened with me . Carried 20 grams of gold on domestic flight . It got flagged in security because gold appears completely black on the x-ray screen . Security personnel checked my bag and the coins , asked a few quick questions and then let me go . No problem at all .

Sure , I only interacted with security personnel . He asked – what is this ? And why are you carrying this ?
I told him that these are gold coins I bought from Amazon , and am carrying them back to my home city .

They didn’t ask for receipts , but since I bought from Amazon , I kinda have the order history on my phone .
