Got a 10,000 Challan for expired PUC when my car did not even leave the house

PUC was till 5 April, today is 29 April. But during that period no traffic police personnel intercepted the car or issued a challan. But it was issued online automatically. What should be the legal resort? How can I cut down the challan?

Did you take your car outside anywhere during that time? Maybe it was captured in a camera that you don’t know about

Check nearby petrol pump where you have refueled the car as sometimes back there was news that cameras are installed at pumps for checking expired puc vehicles and challan will be issued then for the violators.

They most likely have a database of expiry date. So they are issuing challans if they don’t find new puc validity.

Pretty stupid imo and that too 10k. Just take a backdated puc and tell u already have one.

Thats what we have to check. Down south too it’s online. Insurance , rc, fitness, puc all show up in the rta app.

If you’ve driven through a signal, most likely the traffic security camera picked up the number plate and ran through the db for expiry of insurance/ puc / registration. Do mostly its auto generated.

Visit traffic police station to confirm.

Dispute the challan and ask for a proof. If they don’t have a image from a camera, then this is illegal. Tell them that the car is parked in the house at the time of challan. Wait for the lok-adalat and settle your challan there. Don’t pay anything without talking to anyone. This might be a automatic process of issuing challan, but nobody is stopping you to dispute it.

Well I’m glad this has started while I myself have been challaned for not having a PUC twice before.
Atleast we will start following rules. I learned my lesson the hard way, now I ensure all my docs are in place.

In Kerala, if a valid PUC is produced within 7 days of receiving the fine, the fine will be waived.

There will be a Lok Adalat on May 10th, where you can settle your challan. The judge may impose a penalty of 10-20% of the challan amount
