QPlease provide full information. Did your brother already joined the organisation? Did the MHA officials informed you that the call is regarding your brother’s background verification? Did they provide any other details that can be obtained only from the application?
A lot of things seems fishy here. MHA doesn’t do background checks, they are usually delegated to the local PS. but since it’s ISRO, can’t rule that out.

SIt’s the IB .. they can’t directly say that so they use “Ministry of Home Affairs” or “Special Branch”.

EYes but what’s the point of intelligence if you have to be fed information via whatsapp. Shouldn’t they do their own background checks? What kind of intelligence knocks on your door and asks you whether you are what you say you are.
If they use “Ministry of Home affairs”, why can’t they use that domain then to at least validate it’s some government entity.

ENot a scam.
MHA does background check of parents and all siblings (and in-laws) of people selected in ISRO/BARC/NPCIL etc. Your brother’s last 5 year’s residential addresses will also get a visit from local police for verification .
Your brother is required to fill all these details in a form.
I was selected in a similar post in 2021. My sister and jiju who work in a private company got a visit from MHA official at their workplace.Congratulations to your brother though.

EI was not in ISRO, but in one of the other department I mentioned. Post was of scientific officer but work was of regular engineer. Quality wise best engineering work in India imo, but nothing cutting edge, no ghooskhori but tonnes of paperwork.
I left the organisation as I got selected in my state’s engineering services.

Sif you get government job, central government i mean, IB ( investigation bureau ) will do their job of background verification, finally local police will come and verify things and thats it,
you are not supposed to get a call from ministry of home affairs by any means.
I work in BARC , i know these things,
so be alert, this does not seem legit

HGovt employee here who had also cracked one govt job of Dept of Atomic Energy.
The person calling you is from the Intelligence Bureau. You brother must have mentioned about you in his Attestation and Special Security Questionnaire.
This is a routine process in which apart from the local PS, the IB also conducts verification to ensure that the perspective Govt employee (your brother here) has no such links which may put national security at stake.This IB verification is usually done for sensitive depts like ISRO, DRDO, DAE etc

Pyup! This, they’re doing a bg check on him. Which they most likely have completed hence asking for his documents for completion. The guy doing the check has discretion here, he may visit you at your office/home or he can make it convenient for you by having those docs over WA. Relax, it’s not a scam.

KYes, MHA calls from 011 landline number. They do multiple works on call. WhatsApp I had not heard, but it’s not out of brand for them. The Gov email ids are a pain they say.
I have dealt with them on call for facilitating visa for a group of people visiting India. (They called, I couldn’t call back to reach them). -

UBro this is f scam. Your brother got the job why they need you dob proof. Moreover official will call you from phone not on WhatsApp, usually using landline or bsnl sim.
And moreover they will tell you to give details on a verified email.Ask him to fuck off.
And please update what happens next-

SFor sensitive government departments, all your immediate relatives will be screened. Siblings, parents, spouse, in laws, spouse’s siblings is the bare minimum. In fact you have to give all their details even before you get selected.. including passport details, foreign residence if any etc. , There is a Special Security Questionnaire for these things.

ONo such info is requested by government on WhatsApp and if they request on email, make sure the email ends with …gov.in or …nic.in before you send any info. If the call was from a landline number then entire MHA directory is available on the internet so you can check which officer called you. If none of what I said checks out, the call was definitely from a scammer

AWhy would any government entity or any officer ask you for documents on WhatsApp.
Just so you know organisations like ISRO, BARC, DAE and so on, have multiple departments. There is a specific department that processes requests related to visiting passes, unless you are planning to visit your brother at these facilities they would never ask you for your documents and anyways if it comes to it, everything will be handled by your brother only, you will never be asked directly.
