Got offered an interview from a legit company but they’re asking for original academic documents to help submitted

  Hi folks, I was invited to attend an interview for a psychologist position from a legit company (https://www.starlitservices.com/) but the HR person on call said that it would be compulsory for me to submit my original academic documents (10th,12th, BA, and Master’s) and that they would be released if I need them for passport/visa by giving them proof of the appointment. The salary and job description checks out but this of course sounds fishy to me. Is this illegal? What could they possibly do? Should I still attend the interview and if I pass tell them I’m not comfortable submitting my original documents? I’m really desperate for a job at the moment but of course I don’t want a company to have my documents. Any insights would be appreciated thank you!
