I recently moved to a new place in Bangalore, and bought all my appliances second hand from FB market place.

Saw an ad for a Fridge posted by a lady. She said she use is everyday and there are no complaints.

I had porter pick up the fridge and deliver it to my place. I switched it on after 2 hours of the delivery (gave time for the gas to settle down) and it was very loud. I immediately called her and she dint pick up. I WhatsAppd her and she again said she was using it everyday.

After a day, I realised the fridge can’t make ice and can’t keep food fresh. I called a technical and he said everything including the compressor and freezer box has been changed. It would require 4-5k to fix it but no guarantee it will work.

I tried calling the lady again and realised she has blocked me. Called her from my partners phone, she picked up the moment she realised it was regarding the fridge she cut the call and blocked that number too.

Now I am scammed off 5k + whatever I paid for porter and a fridge that’s only good for scrap.
I have the persons address, phone number and Linkedin profile. If I go to the cops will they help I am not a localite, please help.

I agree that was my fault. I have purchased and sold multiple things on marketplace and OLX and there is always blanket of trust from both ends. Even in this case, I verified the persons profile only made payment once it was picked up by porter. Never did I know this was an outright scam.

Threaten her with FIR. If she still doesn’t care go try the police.

She blocked me from everywhere. I did leave her a text message saying my last resort would be going to police. My question, will police take this seriously? I don’t even want to file an FIR, I’m pretty sure if a cop calls her up she’ll come to terms.

Ola and fb market place is full of frauds

It’s like playing Russian roulette and having 5 bullets in gun and one empty slot

Why wouldn’t you go to the place, verify the condition of the item and then book a porter. Seems like you’re too naive. Change your attitude or prepare to get scammed.

Not worth the hassle. You lost 5k but learnt an important lesson. The lady can claim it was working just fine and courier company’s at fault…

Don’t you have the address? Send a porter back to her house and file an FIR in that vicinity

Why didn’t you visit her place before making a buy?

By this you get to know whether the product is working well or not. Also, her address

If she avoids, you can predict that she is trying to scam you.

What can you do about it? It was sold as is. You never got it checked. Now, unfortunately, you have no choice but to suffer. Nothing can be done legally either.
